yawning tears

yawning tears

Tears are a normal reaction of our eyes, and usually occur when we are stimulated by negative emotions. Tears caused by yawning happen frequently, but don’t worry too much. You will feel relieved once you understand the principle behind it. What needs the most attention is frequent yawning, which may be a big hidden danger. Let’s take a closer look at the situation.

The lacrimal sac is squeezed. Human tears are produced by the lacrimal glands. The tear glands continue to produce tears while a person is awake. Under normal circumstances, after lubricating the eyeball, the tears flow from the lacrimal puncta into the lacrimal sac. The tears stored in the lacrimal sac flow from the nasolacrimal duct into the nasal cavity and finally into the digestive tract. When you yawn, the facial muscles tense up and squeeze the lacrimal sac, causing the tears to flow back, resulting in tears when you yawn.

When you yawn due to blocked nasolacrimal duct drainage, carbon dioxide is exhaled out of the body and oxygen is inhaled. As the facial muscles tense and contract during yawning, the pressure in the oral and nasal cavities increases, thereby blocking the nasolacrimal duct from draining tears. The tears cannot flow down, and more and more tears accumulate in the eyes, eventually bursting out and flowing onto the face.

Another reason for tears may be due to lack of oxygen in the body. When the tissues around the lungs detect that the oxygen concentration in the lungs is low, people will yawn and shed tears to inhale more air. Because when you yawn your mouth opens very wide, you can exhale as much carbon dioxide as possible and take in as much oxygen as possible.

Yawning is a normal self-protection of the human body, but if you yawn too frequently, there may be problems with your health.

Problems that may arise from frequent yawning

1. High blood lipids If you keep yawning, it means that your brain is seriously lacking in oxygen. High blood lipids will increase the amount of waste in the blood, causing the body's blood flow to slow down.

2. Cervical spondylosis Cervical spondylosis is mainly caused by long-term strain of the cervical spine and bone hyperplasia, which leads to compression of the cervical spinal cord, nerve roots or vertebral arteries, resulting in insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the brain and frequent yawning.

3. Cardiovascular disease The heart is responsible for supplying blood to the whole body and brain. If there is a problem with the heart, it can easily lead to a decrease in the heart's ejection function, causing cerebral ischemia and hypoxia.

4. Staying in an oxygen-deficient space for too long can also cause yawning if you stay in an oxygen-deficient environment for too long. Because there is insufficient oxygen in the room, the amount of oxygen entering the brain will be relatively insufficient, and the brain will begin to yawn due to lack of oxygen.
