The difference between black stool and tarry stool

Our human body basically defecates once a day, which is normal. If you do not defecate for one day or for several consecutive days, you should pay attention, as it may be constipation or other diseases. If the color of the feces is wrong, such as black or tarry, then it should attract our attention and seek medical attention in time. Let’s talk about the difference between black stool and tarry stool.

First of all, the clinical significance of tarry stools and black stools both indicate upper gastrointestinal bleeding, but the degree of tarry stools is relatively more serious. This must be distinguished. It does not mean that all feces are the same. You must learn to observe your own physical condition.

Secondly, it can be said that tarry stools are a sign of gastrointestinal bleeding. If you have gastritis or ulcers, the above situation can be caused, and it is also directly related to diet.

Finally, the cause of black stool is mostly gastrointestinal bleeding, so first do a gastrointestinal examination to rule out the possibility of gastrointestinal bleeding and then treat constipation. Have a routine stool test to see if there is any occult blood. If the test is normal and the colonoscopy is normal, it means there is no problem with the gastrointestinal tract and no treatment is needed.

Precautions

Don't eat raw food. Avoid spicy and indigestible foods, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, maintain a good mood, do not eat miscellaneous foods, and actively participate in physical exercise.

Generally, after gastrointestinal bleeding, the stool stays in the intestinal cavity for a long time, and chemical changes occur with the intestinal tissues, making the stool

The stool is black and shiny with mucus on the surface. As long as there is gastrointestinal bleeding and the amount of bleeding is slightly excessive, there will usually be tarry stools.

Tarry stools are caused by the iron in hemoglobin reacting with sulfide under the action of gastric acid and intestinal bacteria to become iron sulfide. This compound makes the stool black. Its shape and color are like tar, so it is called tarry stool. Tarry stool not only looks black and has a bloody smell, but also because the iron sulfide increases the secretion of mucus in the intestinal wall, it becomes shiny and sticky, and generally has no fecal odor. When upper gastrointestinal bleeding exceeds 50 ml, black stools may appear. Experiments have shown that if 100-200 ml of blood is introduced into the stomach, tarry stools may occur.
