Retention enema means using a soft tube instead of a steel pipe, inserting a tube of about 10 to 15 centimeters, and the speed is generally about 60 to 70 drops per minute. 1. Instruct the patient to defecate or give a defecation enema once.

2. Determine the lying position according to the condition of the disease. For chronic bacillary dysentery, it is better to lie on the left side, while for amoebic dysentery, it is better to lie on the right side. The patient's buttocks should be raised 10 cm, and the liquid level should not be more than 30 cm away from the anus. The liquid volume within 200 ml can be slowly injected using a funnel or syringe.

3. For those with a liquid volume of more than 200 ml, slowly drip it with an open infusion bottle (i.e. rectal infusion method). When using the drip method, the buttocks must be raised about 20 cm, and the anal canal is replaced by a urinary catheter with an insertion length of about 10 to 15 cm. The drip rate is generally 60 to 70 drops/min. Attention should be paid to keeping the liquid warm during dripping.

4. After extubation, ask the patient to lie flat, be as patient as possible, do not remove the tube, and keep it for more than 1 hour.

It is advisable for patients with intestinal diseases to infuse the medicine before going to bed at night.

If the condition is caused by cooling enema, defecation should be delayed half an hour after enema.
