What is venous thrombosis?

Venous thrombosis is quite common in daily life and is quite harmful to patients. There are two main types of venous thrombosis: thrombophlebitis and venous thrombosis. Middle-aged and elderly people are the main groups suffering from the disease. The more fatal one is that it can easily lead to pulmonary embolism and even pose a great threat to the patient's life safety. Once venous thrombosis occurs, it should be treated in time.

Overview of venous thrombosis There are two types of venous thrombosis: one is thrombophlebitis, which means that inflammation is the first stage and thrombosis is secondary. Another is venous thrombosis, which refers to thrombosis as the primary phenomenon and the inflammatory process of the vein wall as a secondary phenomenon. However, deep vein thrombosis in the lower extremities is the most common. The elderly not only have a high incidence rate, but are also prone to fatal pulmonary embolism, which deserves attention.

Causes of venous thrombosis

1. Slow blood flow First, the elderly have poor physical strength, less activity and more opportunities to stay in bed, which weakens the muscle elasticity of venous return; in addition, the elderly are more likely to suffer from heart disease, poor heart function, and significantly reduced cardiac output, causing systemic congestion; thirdly, the incidence of abdominal tumors in the elderly is increased. When lying flat, abdominal organs and tumors can compress the veins. At the same time, in anatomy, the veins of the two lower limbs are compressed by tendons, ligaments and nerves in certain parts, which hinders venous return. The elderly are prone to varicose veins, which are tortuous and dilated, with reduced elasticity. Most of them are accompanied by damaged venous valves and communicating branches, causing venous congestion in the lower limbs.

2. Hypercoagulation is manifested as increased blood coagulability, increased fibrinogen activity, decreased fibrinolytic activity and increased platelet aggregation. These aging changes are conducive to thrombosis. In certain pathological conditions, such as fractures, traumatic surgical tissue damage, a large amount of thromboplastin enters the blood circulation; polycythemia dehydration, abnormal plasma protein, large vein catheterization, and infusion of hypertonic nutrient solution can all cause blood concentration; pancreatic, lung, ovarian malignant tumors and leukemia itself promote platelet destruction and release of coagulation factors, which can promote thrombosis. 3. Changes in the venous intima. Aging of the veins is manifested by rough intima and atrophy of venous valves, which makes it easy for platelets to adhere and form blood clots in the venous sinuses below the valves. Intravenous pacing catheters and electrodes can also cause damage to the venous intima.
