Why is the old man hallucinating and talking nonsense?

If the elderly have auditory and visual hallucinations, and talk nonsense, this is closely related to the decline of their brains. The elderly are prone to memory loss, which can lead to gradual inactivity of brain cells. The most common reason is cerebellar atrophy, which often leads to symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. At this time, it is important to emphasize nutrition, pay attention to diet, and family members should pay more attention and care.

Why is the old man hallucinating and talking nonsense?

The disease may be a heterogeneous group of diseases, with multiple factors (including biological and psychosocial factors) contributing to its onset. According to current research, there are more than 30 possible factors and hypotheses for this disease, such as family history, female gender, head trauma, low education level, thyroid disease, maternal childbearing age that is too high or too low, viral infection, etc. The following factors are associated with the onset of the disease:

1. Family history

Most epidemiological studies have suggested that family history is a risk factor for the disease. The incidence of the same disease among family members of some patients is higher than that in the general population. In addition, an increased risk of congenital idiocy has been found. Further genetic studies confirmed that the disease may be caused by an autosomal dominant gene. Recently, through gene positioning research, it was discovered that the pathological gene of amyloid protein in the brain is located on the 21st pair of chromosomes. It can be seen that dementia is definitely related to genetics.

2. Some physical illnesses

Diseases such as thyroid disease, immune system disease, and epilepsy have been studied as risk factors for the disease. People with a history of hypothyroidism have a higher relative risk of developing the disease. There is often a history of epileptic seizures before the onset of this disease. A history of migraines or severe headaches is not associated with the disorder. Many studies have found that a history of depression, especially depression in the elderly, is a risk factor for the disease. A recent case-control study suggests that in addition to depression, other functional mental disorders such as schizophrenia and paranoid psychosis are also associated. Chemical substances that have been studied as risk factors for this disease include heavy metal salts, organic solvents, pesticides, and medicines. The role of aluminum has always been a concern because animal experiments have shown that aluminum salts have effects on learning and memory; epidemiological studies have suggested that the prevalence of dementia is related to the aluminum content in drinking water. The aging process may be accelerated due to the accumulation of neurotoxins such as aluminum or silicon in the body.

3. Head trauma

Head trauma refers to head trauma accompanied by impaired consciousness. Brain trauma has been reported many times as a risk factor for this disease. Clinical and epidemiological studies suggest that severe brain trauma may be one of the causes of some of these diseases.

4. Others

Progressive failure of the immune system, weakened detoxification function of the body, slow virus infection, as well as social and psychological factors such as widowhood, living alone, financial difficulties, and a bumpy life can be the cause of the disease.
