The incidence of malignant tumors

The incidence of malignant tumors

There are many tumor diseases in life, but generally people who suffer from tumor diseases are middle-aged and elderly people, because the functions of their immune organs will gradually decline and their immunity will be low, which will provide a certain environment for the growth of tumors. Generally, tumors will change from benign to malignant. As long as you cooperate well with the treatment in the benign stage, malignant tumors will not occur. So what is the incidence rate of malignant tumors?

With the improvement of our living standards and medical conditions, the average life expectancy of the people has gradually increased. However, due to some social and environmental factors, the incidence of malignant tumors in the elderly is getting higher and higher. In the developed countries of the world, more than 60% of cancer patients are elderly people over 65 years old, and the risk of cancer in the elderly is several times higher than that of middle-aged and young people.

It is easy to miss the early diagnosis of tumors in the elderly. According to clinical studies, tumors in the elderly are essentially no different from those in other age groups. However, due to the deterioration of their physical functions, the atrophy of their organs and the reduction in their functions, their immune functions are often on the "downhill road", so the elderly are prone to infections, tumors and other diseases. Malignant tumors in the elderly have their own clinical characteristics: first, they grow slowly. Clinical studies have shown that malignant tumors in the elderly develop more slowly than in young people, with a longer doubling time. Their pathological types generally show better differentiation and lower malignancy, and the chance of cancer metastasis is also lower than in young people. The incidence of cancer metastasis in the elderly tends to decrease with age. Secondly, the clinical symptoms are atypical and highly hidden, making early diagnosis difficult and easy to miss.

Elderly patients often have different diseases in the same organ at the same time. In addition, the symptoms caused by the tumor itself are often not prominent, especially early tumors themselves rarely have obvious symptoms. In addition, the elderly have slow body reactions, are not sensitive to illness or pain, or cannot express it early, which can easily lead to misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.

People with poor resistance have a greater chance of infection. Elderly cancer patients have many underlying diseases, such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, etc. When malignant tumors progress, they often involve multiple organs, causing the underlying diseases to worsen. Tissue and organ dysfunction caused by the underlying diseases also hinders the treatment of tumors. Clinical treatment must take a holistic view and weigh the pros and cons.

Moreover, elderly cancer patients are often prone to complications due to malnutrition and weak constitution, and are prone to respiratory and urinary tract infections. Therefore, many elderly cancer patients do not die from the primary tumor itself, but from complications and comorbidities. Therefore, during the treatment process, we must be highly vigilant about the occurrence of complications. We recommend that elderly friends have regular physical examinations, generally every six months, to ensure early detection, diagnosis and treatment of tumors. We also recommend that elderly cancer patients have proper nutrition and treatment on a daily basis, and go to regular professional hospitals to develop standardized treatment plans based on their own characteristics in order to improve cure rates and prolong survival time.
