For most consumers, they are familiar with the word myristic acid because many cosmetics contain this ingredient. Little do people know that myristic acid actually has a wide range of applications. The reason why it is added to cosmetics is because it can moisturize human skin and is especially suitable for women. So, what are the other effects and functions of myristic acid?

Myristic acid is widely used in cosmetics. It can moisturize and hydrate the skin, making the skin absorb the product better. It can effectively contact the hair follicles in the cortex, penetrate deep into the cortex, and bring in the active components in the cosmetics to give full play to the role of the effective ingredients. It is generally used as a cosmetic solvent, skin moisturizer and penetrant.

Nutmeg has antibacterial effects. The MICs of methyl isoeugenol against Staphylococcus aureus and Pneumococcus are 0.4 mg/ml and 0.6 mg/ml, respectively. Malabarone B has a strong antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Streptococcus perseverant, with the MIC of the former two being 1ug/ml and the latter being 2ug/ml. The MIC of Malabarone C against Bacillus subtilis is 2ug/ml.

Nutmeg also has an anesthetic effect. The methyl eugenol and elegans in its volatile oil have an anesthetic effect on mice, rabbits, cats and dogs after iv administration. The dosage of nutmeg should not be too large. Overdose can cause poisoning, coma, mydriasis and convulsions. Taking 7.5 grams of nutmeg powder can cause dizziness, even delirium and drowsiness, and large amounts can cause death. Depending on the processing methods, it is divided into nutmeg and stewed nutmeg. Stewed nutmeg can be divided into stewed nutmeg wrapped in flour, stewed in wheat bran and stewed in talcum powder. After processing, it is stored in a dry container, sealed, and placed in a cool and dry place to prevent moth damage.

The nutmeg endosperm is divided into two layers, the outer layer cells are flat, tangentially elongated, and contain yellow-brown substances; the inner layer cells are rectangular, contain reddish-brown substances, and extend into the endosperm to form intercalated tissue, which often has a vascular bundle and many scattered oil cells. The oil cells are 42-140cm in diameter and contain volatile oil droplets. Endosperm cells are polygonal, containing large amounts of fatty oil, starch granules and aleurone granules, among which there are pseudo-crystals. The endosperm has cells containing brown material scattered throughout.
