One-hour glucose tolerance test in pregnant women

One-hour glucose tolerance test in pregnant women

Many pregnant women will find that they have high glucose tolerance during glucose tolerance tests. This means that they have symptoms of gestational diabetes and need to regulate their bodies in time to ensure that this symptom does not affect the normal development of the child. High glucose tolerance can be alleviated through three methods: diet control, drug therapy and exercise therapy. The following is a detailed introduction to the relevant knowledge of glucose tolerance test.

1. Glucose tolerance test results

Normal glucose tolerance: fasting blood glucose <6.1mmol/L (110mg/dl); reaches peak value 30-60min after oral glucose intake, with peak value <11.1mmol/L (200mg/dl); basically returns to normal level at 120min, i.e. <7.8mmol/L (140mg/dl), and urine sugar is (-). This glucose tolerance curve shows that the body has a good ability to handle glucose load.

Diabetic glucose tolerance: fasting blood glucose ≥7.0mmol/L (126mg/dl); delayed peak, often occurring after 1 hour, peak value ≥11.1mmol/L (200mg/dl); cannot return to normal levels within 120min, i.e. >7.8mmol/L (140mg/dl). The blood glucose level 2 hours after taking sugar is the most important judgment indicator. Many patients with early diabetes may only show an increase in blood sugar levels for 2 hours, and their urine sugar is often positive.

If your glucose tolerance is high during a checkup, don't panic. Ask your doctor about the situation and what you should pay attention to.

2. Pregnant women should control their diet to improve their glucose tolerance

The daily calorie intake is 150KJ/Kg (36Kcal/Kg), including 40%-50% carbohydrates, 12%-20% protein, 30%-35% fat, and vitamins, calcium and iron supplements. The diet should be light, with less salt, to prevent edema and high blood pressure. Eat more soy products, dried shrimps, kelp and other foods to supplement calcium and enhance bone growth. Eat more pork liver, beef, duck blood, etc., and eat more green leafy vegetables to enhance resistance and avoid anemia, dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, palpitations and other symptoms. Consume crude fiber and phytic acid in a quantitative amount, about 20 grams per day on average.

3. Pregnant women can be treated with drugs to improve their glucose tolerance

If normal blood sugar levels can be achieved by controlling the diet and the expectant mother does not feel hungry, there is no need to add medication. If normal levels are not reached, insulin therapy is needed to lower blood sugar.

4. Exercise therapy can be used to improve glucose tolerance in pregnant women

Appropriate exercise can increase the body's sensitivity to insulin, promote the utilization of glucose, and help lower blood sugar. Take a 20-30 minute walk every day. But strenuous exercise should be avoided.
