What are the characteristics of Oxalis?

Oxalis is the largest genus under the Oxalidaceae family, which includes more than 900 species. People know very little about them, but its efficacy is extremely powerful. We can use Oxalis to regulate our bodies in life. It can relieve symptoms such as heat, dampness, gonorrhea, sore throat, dysentery, etc. Today we will mainly look at the main distribution areas and uses of Oxalis.

Oxalis is found throughout the world except in the polar regions. The species is particularly abundant in tropical Brazil and Mexico and in South Africa. There are about 800 species, which are widespread throughout the world, but mainly distributed in South America and South Africa, especially the Cape of Good Hope. There are 5 species, 3 subspecies and 1 variant in my country, 2 of which are domesticated alien species. In addition, there are many exotic species, all of which are cultivated in gardens.

The flower colors are diverse, and the large-flowered species are often used as ornamental garden plants. The young stems and tender leaves of some species can be used as vegetables, but they are rich in oxalic acid, which is not good for health, and are often used as rabbit feed.

The tubers of Oxalis tuberosa are small potato-like and have a long history of being grown as food in Colombia and the northern Andes in South America. The leaves of Oxalis sinensis are rich in vitamin C and were a food used by sailors in southern South America to avoid scurvy.

The characteristic of Oxalis is that it contains oxalic acid, which gives its leaves and flowers a sour taste. Eating a little can refresh you. However, if consumed in large quantities, it can become toxic and affect normal digestion. In the past, calcium oxalate crystals were extracted from Oxalis and used to treat diseases and as table salt.

Many species of Oxalis are beautiful sights in everyone’s mind. These beautiful species are planted in remote areas, but this does not affect their great effects on the human body at all. When we feel unwell, we do not need to rush to get injections or take medicines. If we can regulate our body with Oxalis, it will be more beneficial to the human body and can also reduce the occurrence of various side effects.
