How long does it take to recover from appendicitis?

Although the appendix, a piece of intestine, is not very noticeable among human organs, and many people believe that it does not play a big role in the human body, the appendix is a dispensable existence. However, improper diet or irregular lifestyle can easily lead to appendicitis. Appendicitis occurs mainly because of abscesses in the appendix. A small number of cases of appendicitis will recover on their own after the abscesses occur. So how long will it take for the appendix abscess to recover?

This is hard to say. For example, for serious cases, some people may need more than 20 days or more than a month. There is no way to estimate this. If the condition is relatively stable at this time, just use anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy and wait for recovery. After it is completely healed, consider doing an appendectomy directly after three months.

Periappendiceal abscess refers to the abscess or inflammatory mass formed around the appendix due to acute inflammation of the appendix. The location may vary depending on the position of the appendix. The most common site is the iliac fossa in the right lower abdomen. Clinical manifestations include abdominal distension, abdominal pain, signs of peritoneal irritation, tender masses, and symptoms of systemic infection and poisoning. The incidence of this disease accounts for 4% to 10% of acute appendicitis.

Causes

If acute appendicitis is not treated promptly and reasonably after onset, the disease may progress and the appendix may be surrounded by the greater omentum and adjacent intestinal loops, forming a mass. When the appendix perforates, pus is localized around the appendix and forms an abscess.

Clinical manifestations

1. There are symptoms related to acute appendicitis.

2. Intermittent right lower abdominal pain, localized fixed tenderness point in the right lower abdomen, may be accompanied by localized or diffuse peritoneal irritation signs.

3. Symptoms of systemic infection and poisoning.

4. Symptoms such as abdominal distension caused by paralytic ileus.

5. Persistent high fever and increased pulse rate.

treat

1. General treatment

(1) Fasting, gastrointestinal decompression, and adequate rest.

(2) Closely observe changes in physical signs and the condition of the mass, including the size of the mass, the severity of tenderness, and whether the range of muscle tension has been relieved, and whether the symptoms of poisoning have improved. If necessary, repeat the color Doppler ultrasound and laboratory tests.

2. Medication

(1) Antibiotic selection should take into account both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and broad-spectrum antibiotics should be used in combination.

(2) Traditional Chinese medicine for internal and external use. Traditional Chinese medicine mainly uses therapies such as clearing away heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and draining pus and reducing swelling.

3. Surgery

If the inflammatory mass in the right lower abdomen continues to expand to 10 cm and is accompanied by obvious tenderness, and the body temperature, pulse, white blood cell count, and neutrophil percentage continue to increase, surgical treatment is required.
