Symptoms of elbow synovitis

Symptoms of elbow synovitis

Although the symptoms of synovitis mostly occur around the knee joint, synovitis can actually occur in other joints of the human body. The human elbow is also a very important joint area, and there are many synovial membranes distributed around the elbow. If the elbow joint suffers from synovitis, it will affect the normal use of the hand. So what are the symptoms of elbow synovitis?

1. Elbow synovitis is most common in the lateral epicondylitis and elbow. Lateral epicondylitis refers to: acute or chronic, overuse disease with localized pain on the outside of the elbow joint and the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, which affects the wrist extension and forearm rotation functions. It is also called tennis elbow. Elbow pain is common in people who do high-intensity forearm labor, such as hairdressers, carpenters, blacksmiths, and chefs. It is more common among athletes, such as tennis, badminton, and table tennis players. It can also be called an occupational disease.

2. Elbow synovitis is more common in middle-aged people, more common in men than in women, and more common on the right side than on the left side. The pain is characterized by pain on the outside of the elbow joint, which is persistent and gradually worsens. The pain is sore or tingling. For some patients, the pain radiates to the forearm, wrist or upper arm. The pain worsens when lifting, pulling, or holding heavy objects or rotating (such as twisting a towel). The pain often causes forearm weakness and reduced grip strength. The pain is significantly reduced or disappears during rest. Patients with lateral epicondylitis often feel that the pain increases when wringing a towel or sweeping the floor, and they have difficulty holding objects. Tenderness can be found on the outside of the elbow.

Elbow synovitis is more common in middle-aged people, mostly occurs on the right side, the number of male patients is significantly higher than that of female patients, and pain is the main symptom. The pain has many characteristics, including persistent aching or tingling on the outside, and some patients also have radiating pain up the arm. The pain is worse when you are cold, tired, or lifting heavy objects, but it subsides after a period of rest.

Limited elbow joint movement is also one of the typical symptoms of elbow synovitis. The degree of limited movement is directly related to the condition and has a certain relationship with pain. It usually seriously endangers the patient's normal life.

Symptoms of elbow synovitis also include swelling of the elbow joint, which is directly related to joint pain and limited movement. The most common sites are the humerus and elbow.

Various discomfort symptoms will be aggravated by cold stimulation. For example, if the air conditioning in the house is turned on too low during the hot summer, the elbows will be stimulated by the cold wind, which will affect the elimination of some fluids in the tissues and induce more obvious discomfort.

There is persistent and gradually worsening pain, which may manifest itself in daily life as severe pain and discomfort during the process of wringing wet clothes, carrying plates, etc., or obvious discomfort when doing other housework activities or lifting heavy objects.

The functional activities are obviously restricted, which is more obvious in those who often do manual labor. For example, hairdressers, restaurant waiters, table tennis players, etc., will have their work significantly affected by various discomforts during wrist extension and forearm rotation.

Note:

There will be obvious swelling on the outside of the elbow joint and the adjacent area, which is in sharp contrast to the healthy side.
