Side effects of fever-reducing injections for infants

When a child is born, his organs are not fully developed, his physique is relatively weak, and he lacks the ability to resist bacterial invasion. Therefore, parents should always pay attention to their children's health to prevent them from being troubled by diseases. Especially during the season change, cold air suddenly strikes, and the cold air is mixed with a large number of bacteria. Many children are prone to symptoms of cold and fever. In the later stage of the fever, when the high fever persists, many doctors will recommend antipyretic injections for babies. So what are the side effects of fever-reducing injections for babies?

Side effects of fever-reducing injections for infants

Antipyretic injections generally inhibit the central nervous system to achieve the purpose of reducing fever. The baby's central nervous system is not yet fully developed, and frequent injections will cause irreversible damage to the baby's central nervous system. Generally, when a baby has a fever, physical cooling methods should be used first. Use warm water to wipe the baby's limbs, chest and back, and drink more warm water to help the baby dissipate heat. Only when the body temperature exceeds 38.5℃ should injections be used to reduce fever.

How to reduce fever in children

1. Antipyretics cannot prevent febrile convulsions and should not be used preventively. Therefore, it is not recommended to actively give children antipyretics when their temperature is above 38.5 degrees.

2. The purpose of reducing fever is to improve the child's comfort. When the child's temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, but he is still in very good spirits and has no symptoms of discomfort, there is no need to use antipyretics; when the child's temperature has not reached 38.5 degrees, but he is in poor spirits and has fatigue, pain and other discomforts, he can be given antipyretics in time; when taking antipyretics does not improve the child's discomfort, you should consider using other drugs. You should not take antipyretics just for the sake of reducing fever.

3. When a child’s body temperature rises and causes parents to become overly anxious, this should also be considered as a factor in the use of antipyretics.

4. Physical cooling (warm water bath, ice pack, alcohol body rub, etc.) is no longer recommended. Although warm water baths can help lower body temperature, they will increase the child's discomfort, so it is best not to use them; ice compresses cannot reduce body temperature, and may cause new discomforts such as chills, goose bumps, crying, etc., so they are not recommended; alcohol baths have many problems and are not recommended.

5. Children with fever should not be left without clothes, nor should they be left with too many clothes.

6. The severity of the disease cannot be judged by the level of fever and the duration of fever. It is also impossible to judge the severity of the disease based on the speed and degree of temperature drop after taking antipyretics. A comprehensive judgment should be made based on age, mental reaction, respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, capillary refill time and peripheral transcutaneous blood oxygen saturation, and the presence or absence of accompanying symptoms such as cough, vomiting, diarrhea, and rash.

Antipyretic injections will definitely have side effects. This also reminds parents not to blindly give their children antipyretic injections when the child's fever is not particularly serious. When using air conditioning for children in the summer, it is necessary to keep them warm to prevent them from catching a cold and developing a fever when the temperature is relatively low.
