Are hemorrhoids contagious?

Is hemorrhoids contagious? Many friends are afraid to seek treatment after suffering from hemorrhoids, thinking that it is a disease that is embarrassing to talk about. Some friends also have a wrong understanding of this disease, thinking that it is contagious, and therefore feel that it is an "unclean" disease. Is this understanding and knowledge correct? Are hemorrhoids really contagious like sexually transmitted diseases?

There are many common causes of hemorrhoids, such as sitting for long periods of time and eating spicy food, but among the many causes, no one is infected. This shows that hemorrhoids are not contagious. Although the affected area is relatively private, it is different from sexually transmitted diseases! Generally speaking, infectious diseases refer to diseases caused by viruses and bacteria and transmitted through air, food and other contact routes. The source of infection, the route of transmission, and the target of transmission are three necessary conditions for an infectious disease.

However, hemorrhoids are not caused by bacteria or viruses. Instead, they are caused by congestion, dilation and bending of the venous plexus under the rectal mucosa and under the skin of the anal canal due to various reasons, forming a soft venous mass. It has no direct relationship with viral or bacterial infections. Sometimes, some inflammatory external hemorrhoids or incarcerated internal hemorrhoids become infected and inflamed, and even become infected and festered to form perianal abscesses, but this has little to do with the cause of hemorrhoids themselves and may only be a factor inducing hemorrhoids.

There are also some lifestyle problems, such as overeating, eating refined foods frequently, or holding back bowel movements or squatting on the toilet for too long, which are all causes of hemorrhoids. In addition, since hemorrhoids themselves are a type of varicose tumor in which the venous plexus under the skin of the terminal rectum and anal canal dilates, bends, and bulges into a mass, it is a benign disease and will not cause pathogens. Therefore, hemorrhoids are not an infectious disease and are not contagious.

So, even if you suffer from hemorrhoids, you don’t have to worry about it being transmitted to your family and friends. After correctly understanding the question of whether hemorrhoids are contagious, I hope you can have a correct understanding of this disease. Don’t delay treatment after you get sick. This will only make the disease worse and eventually lead to more serious adverse consequences!
