Causes of urethral sphincter relaxation

Causes of urethral sphincter relaxation

Urethral sphincter relaxation is a very technical term, but you can guess that it refers to the relaxation of a nerve in the urethral opening. This is mainly caused by anorectal and colorectal diseases, nervous system diseases, congenital malformations, and mixed hemorrhoids. This disease mainly affects male urinary problems, causing incontinence and dysfunction. It is also related to the patient's age, because these nerves and muscles will become loose with age.

1. The causes of anal sphincter relaxation include anorectal and colorectal diseases and trauma, mainly sphincter injury.

Anorectal and colorectal diseases: The most common are rectal tumors and inflammatory diseases. Rectal tumors infiltrate and destroy the sphincter, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease causes rectal inflammation and long-term diarrhea, complete rectal prolapse causes anal relaxation, and pudendal nerve traction and damage.

The trauma is mainly sphincter injury: the most common causes are anorectal surgery and birth trauma, especially high anal fistula surgery that damages the anorectal canal and sphincter, and third-degree perineal lacerations in birth trauma. In addition, improper surgical treatment of internal hemorrhoids, anal fissures, rectal prolapse, rectal tumors, or external violence, drug injection, burns, frostbite, etc. to the anal canal tissue can cause anal incontinence.

2. Causes of anal sphincter relaxation include neurological diseases and congenital malformations

Nervous system diseases: such as central nervous system diseases, spina bifida, myelomeningocele, spinal cord and sacral nerve injuries, infections and spinal cord tumors.

Congenital malformations: Congenital malformations of the anorectum and anorectal nerve disorders can both lead to anal incontinence.

3. The reasons for anal sphincter relaxation include fertility factors, gynecology and mixed hemorrhoids

Reproductive factors in women: Perineal lacerations during childbirth can completely rupture the anal sphincter and cause anal relaxation.

Mixed hemorrhoids: Anal sphincter dysfunction Due to the presence of anorectal diseases such as mixed hemorrhoids and annular internal hemorrhoids, the anal sphincter over-expands and relaxes; or due to old age and physical weakness, the anal sphincter atrophies and becomes weak, resulting in sphincter dysfunction and anal relaxation. In addition, neurological diseases such as anal nerve damage, spinal cord and sacral nerve damage, and infection can also cause sphincter dysfunction.
