Is Caesarean section painful?

Pregnant women often consider one question during the pregnancy process, that is, whether it will be painful to give birth. As we all know, it is very difficult for women to give birth, especially during natural childbirth, the pain is heart-wrenching. As birth technology becomes more and more advanced, more and more pregnant women will choose caesarean section for delivery. How painful will it be for a woman during the caesarean section?

How many days will the cesarean section contractions last?

Under normal circumstances, uterine contractions should end in about three days after a caesarean section. This also depends on your physical constitution. Generally, a follow-up examination is required after a caesarean section on the seventh day. So mothers should not be too nervous about contractions. Just get plenty of rest and keep a happy mood. After the baby is born, the new mother will still feel intermittent abdominal pain similar to labor pains, and this feeling will be more obvious when feeding the baby. This situation is very common and is a necessary stage for a new mother's uterus to recover. This is mainly because the uterus will shrink rapidly after delivery. This contraction is a continuous spasm state, and the oxytocin produced during breastfeeding can intensify uterine contractions. Therefore, new mothers will still feel labor pains.

Generally, this pain is most obvious on the first day after delivery and will gradually subside.

How to relieve pain from contractions after a cesarean section

1. Change sleeping position: Let the mother sleep on her side and avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time to reduce pain in this area. It may also be helpful to put a cushion under the mother's buttocks when sitting.

2. Massage the lower abdomen: In the first few days after delivery, you can use your palms to apply a little force on the mother's abdomen to do circular massage until you feel the area harden, to promote the discharge of residual substances in the uterine cavity; when the pain is severe, massage can temporarily relax the uterine muscles and relieve pain.

3. Hot compress: Use a hot water bag to apply hot compress to the lower abdomen for half an hour each time. Be careful not to use too high a temperature to avoid burns.

4. Take painkillers: If the pain of uterine contractions affects your rest and sleep, you can use mild sedatives to relieve the pain if necessary. It should be noted that you must follow the doctor's advice and never take medicine at random.

5. Traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture: Acupuncture at Zhongji, Guanyuan, Sanyinjiao, Zusanli and other acupoints can also relieve postpartum uterine contraction pain.
