Treatment of lower extremity arteriosclerosis

Treatment of lower extremity arteriosclerosis

In recent years, with the continuous improvement of living standards, the number of people suffering from arteriosclerosis obliterans has increased every year, and this disease has become one of the common diseases of blood vessels in the limbs. Moreover, those who suffer from this disease are middle-aged and elderly people, and the harm of this disease is relatively serious, so treatment has become the focus of attention of people suffering from this disease. Now let the experts introduce what is the treatment for lower limb arteriosclerosis?

The chance of contracting this disease increases with age. Therefore, once contracting this disease, it will seriously affect the patient's life. This disease does not have any special symptoms in the early stages, so it is easy to be ignored. Once obvious symptoms appear, it means that the disease is already serious.

(1) Quit smoking: The relationship between smoking and lower limb ischemic disease is already very clear. Smokers are nine times more likely to develop intermittent claudication than non-smokers. Almost 90% of patients with intermittent claudication are smokers. Smoking can affect arteriosclerosis in many ways. Therefore, quitting smoking is an important treatment measure for lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans. The importance of quitting smoking cannot be overemphasized. Quick reported that patients with intermittent claudication had improved symptoms and increased ankle artery pressure after they stopped smoking. The 5-year patency rate of vascular transplantation in patients who quit smoking was 77%, while it was only 42% in those who continued to smoke.

(2) Exercise: Appropriate and regular walking exercises can relieve symptoms in more than 80% of patients. The mechanism by which exercise relieves symptoms is unclear. It was previously believed that exercise could increase the number of collateral vessels, enlarge their caliber, and increase blood flow, but existing data and examination methods do not support this theory. It is currently believed that exercise causes adaptive changes in enzymes within the muscles, allowing them to absorb oxygen from the bloodstream more efficiently. Blood samples taken from the popliteal vein were tested and found to have significantly increased oxygen uptake in patients who had undergone exercise. The method of exercise is that the patient insists on walking until symptoms appear, then stops, and then walks again after the symptoms disappear, repeating this exercise for 1 hour every day.

(3) Lipid-lowering drugs: Patients with high blood lipids who still have not lowered their blood lipids after diet control can be treated with lipid-lowering drugs. The strongest anticoagulant substance discovered so far, natural hirudin (Xinluokang), is expected to become the first choice for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

(4) Antihypertensive drugs: 40% to 50% of patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans have hypertension, which often brings certain risks to surgery, so hypertension should be treated at the same time. Commonly used antihypertensive drugs include compound antihypertensive tablets, metoprolol (Betaloc), captopril (Captopril), Zhenju antihypertensive tablets, etc. The dosage needs to be adjusted according to the blood pressure reduction situation.

Through the above introduction to the treatment of lower limb arteriosclerosis, everyone must have a certain understanding of the treatment methods of this disease. However, all patients still need to go to the hospital to see a doctor according to their own conditions. Early treatment is still very beneficial to the recovery of the disease.
