Why do fat people snore?

Why do fat people snore?

I wonder if you have noticed a pattern in daily life, that is, fat people are more likely to snore than thin people. Moreover, since fat people are larger in size, if they snore it will affect the people sleeping next to them. Some people snore so severely that the entire bed starts to shake. But why does a fat person snore more?

Snoring is a common phenomenon in daily life, and it is more common in obese people. Because obese people have a lot of fat deposited in their bodies, especially in the face and neck, they appear to have a double chin on the outside, but a lot of fat is deposited on the soft palate and throat wall in the body, which leads to the narrowing of the upper respiratory tract. People with thick tongues usually block the airway in the throat. People with thick and short necks usually have a lot of fat around their respiratory tracts, which affects the airflow and creates friction, forming snoring. It can be seen that obesity is one of the important causes of snoring and sleep apnea.

Doctors warn: Snoring has certain potential dangers. It can not only cause or aggravate respiratory failure, but also induce diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular accident. It is also one of the common causes of clinical sudden death.

Dangers of snoring:

1. Induce respiratory diseases: Snoring can easily cause respiratory diseases such as cor pulmonale, respiratory failure, asthma, and severe patients may die suddenly at night (suffocation). This is the most serious consequence.

2. Cause or aggravate cardiovascular diseases: Snoring can cause or aggravate cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as hypertension, arrhythmia, coronary heart disease, etc.

3. Endocrine diseases: Snoring can easily lead to endocrine dysfunction, thus causing diabetes, obesity, and slow growth and development in children.

4. Mental system diseases: Snoring can cause ischemic cerebrovascular disease, excessive sleepiness, Alzheimer's disease and other diseases.

5. Traffic accidents caused by drowsiness while driving: According to statistics from the Transportation Bureau, a large proportion of traffic accidents are caused by fatigue driving each year, and fatigued drivers often have the habit of snoring.
