How many vertebrae are there in the cervical spine

Our cervical spine is composed of several vertebrae. Any problem with any joint will lead to cervical spondylosis, so everyone must develop good work and study habits. So how many vertebrae does the cervical spine consist of? Each person's cervical vertebrae are composed of seven parts. You should develop good study habits from your student days, have a correct sitting posture when writing, and have good habits when working to avoid the occurrence of cervical spondylosis.

There are 33 vertebrae, also known as spine bones. According to their position in the human body, they can be divided into 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae, 5 sacral vertebrae and 4 coccygeal vertebrae. In adults, the five sacral vertebrae fuse into one sacrum, and the four coccygeal vertebrae fuse into one coccyx. The cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae will never heal.

Common diseases and treatments

1. Fractures occurred in all 23 vertebrae. Research data showed that there were 173 cases of single vertebral fractures, accounting for 76.9%, and 52 cases of combined fractures of two or more vertebrae, accounting for 23.1%. It is most common in the junction of the head and neck, cervical chest, thoracolumbar, and lumbar sacral regions, especially in the thoracolumbar junction (T11-L2) (105 cases, 46.6%). This is related to the fact that the thoracic spine is relatively fixed while the lumbar spine has a large range of motion, especially when injured, the shear stress at the intersection of the axial and flexion, and even lateral and rotational violence of the upper lumbar segment is high. A segment is a functional unit of the spine and the smallest functional unit that reflects the biomechanical properties of the spine. The thoracic and lumbar segments of the spine (T11-L2) are where stress is concentrated. Their anatomical structure and physiological function change significantly and are prone to injury, especially fractures, which are often accompanied by nerve damage and cerebrospinal fluid leakage.

2. Since only one side of the facet joint is removed, the impact of TLIF on spinal stability is much smaller than that of PLIF. In addition, the use of TLIF technology in patients undergoing reoperation can reduce the risk of intraspinal tissue damage due to scar adhesion. The TLIF technique reconstructs the tension-resisting function of the posterior column tension band and the supporting function of the anterior column through anterior intervertebral fusion and posterior pedicle fixation. It has a good stability effect and avoids the damage and complications that may be caused by anterior surgery. TLIF is suitable for all segments of the lumbar spine and does not require pulling the nerve roots and dura mater sac. Through the TLIF technology, the posterior tension band structure is retained, the intervertebral space height and the physiological lordosis of the segment are restored, and the posterior migration of the intervertebral fusion device and bone graft is effectively avoided.

3. Postoperative discharge instructions: Lumbar spinal cord injury often leads to paralysis of the patient's lower limbs, loss of skin sensation and urination disorders, as well as complications such as respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, deep vein thrombosis, severe pressure sores, etc., which are important factors leading to patient death and disability. Therefore, it is necessary not only to master professional knowledge, but also to have a high sense of responsibility, and to do a good job in various postoperative treatments, nursing and scientific rehabilitation training to improve the cure rate, reduce the disability rate and improve the patient's ability to live independently.
