There are small white spots on the baby's nipples.

There are small white spots on the baby's nipples.

The baby's body is white and tender, and the skin is very smooth. Any changes in the baby's body will attract the attention of parents. If there are white spots on the nipples of a newborn, parents should not panic, as this is a normal phenomenon for newborns. If you encounter this situation, it is best not to apply medication, it will disappear after a period of time. So, what is the reason for the white spot on the nipple of a newborn baby?

1. What is the reason for white rice grains on the nipples of newborns?

The small white spots on the baby's nipples are a normal physiological phenomenon for newborn babies. They are mainly caused by the estrogen that the baby obtains from the mother, so boys may also have them. Generally, it will disappear on its own after a few months, so parents don’t need to worry. Parents must not pinch, touch or squeeze the baby's soft tissues! They must not prick it either! There is no need for any external medication! Otherwise, it will cause infection.

2. Why can’t you squeeze your baby’s nipples yourself?

There is a folk saying that after a baby girl is born, her nipples should be squeezed to prevent them from becoming inverted in the future. In fact, whether the nipple is sunken or not depends on the development of the mammary gland during the embryonic period, not on the squeezing after birth. However, squeezing the nipples after birth may cause breast infection in the baby, so be sure not to squeeze the baby's nipples yourself.

3. Normal "abnormal" phenomena in newborns

1. Baldness on the back of the head

Most children's baldness due to pillow is caused by long-term friction between the head and the pillow, which has nothing to do with the child's health. However, if the baldness on the back of the baby does not improve at all as the baby grows, it is recommended that parents take the child to the hospital for a check-up.

2. Acne/miliaria

Many babies are born with rashes and other skin problems that may last for several weeks. Milia (pin-sized white epidermal cysts on the nose, cheeks, or forehead) or baby acne (similar to milia, caused by blocked sebaceous glands) do not require extensive treatment and will disappear on their own over time.

3. Throat hoarseness

The normal laryngeal wheezing of a newborn baby is also called laryngeal stridor. Neonatal stridor is not obvious at birth, but becomes more obvious a few weeks after birth. This is mainly due to the incomplete development of the laryngeal cartilage in newborns, which leads to softening of the laryngeal cartilage. It will usually disappear on its own between 6 months and one year old.

4. False menstruation

Because the fetus is affected by estrogen in the mother's body, the vaginal epithelium of the newborn proliferates, vaginal secretions increase, and even the endometrium proliferates. After the fetus is delivered, the estrogen level drops, the endometrium sheds, and a small amount of bloody and white secretions will flow out of the vagina. This usually occurs 3-7 days after the baby is born and lasts for about 1 week. Whether it is false menstruation or leucorrhea, it is a normal physiological phenomenon. Parents don't need to panic and no treatment is needed.
