This complication of tonsillitis may produce nonpitting facial edema. Other serious symptoms and signs include severe sore throat, swelling in the neck, excessive salivation, cervical lymphadenopathy, fever, chills, and malaise.

Dacryocystitis can cause severe eyelid swelling and persistent tearing. Patients with acute onset may also have pain and tenderness around their lacrimal sacs, accompanied by purulent secretions.

This rare disease is characterized by progressive periorbital edema and a phototropic rash. An itchy, light-colored rash may appear on the bridge of the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Localized or diffuse erythema, eye pain, and fever may also occur.
