Acute gastroenteritis

Acute gastroenteritis

Acute gastroenteritis is an acute inflammation that occurs in the gastrointestinal mucosa. If you have acute gastroenteritis, most of the symptoms will be vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, etc. It is more common in summer and autumn. Many friends are caused by excessive diet, such as overeating, or eating expired or spoiled food. Especially now that every family has a refrigerator, they always think it is safe to put food in the refrigerator. In fact, food that has been kept in the refrigerator for a long time is also very easy to spoil.

Generally, the symptoms of acute gastroenteritis are relatively mild, with bowel movements around ten times a day, mainly yellow or yellow-green in color. If the situation is more serious, the patient may have dozens of bowel movements a day, and all of them are watery. If a fever occurs during this period, the patient will become even more listless and even unconscious. Therefore, we must pay attention to acute gastroenteritis. On the contrary, a correct diet will help gastroenteritis heal quickly and can make gastroenteritis recover faster. Here are some dietary precautions for acute gastroenteritis.

Non-irritating, non-greasy, light, soft food

Acute gastroenteritis

1 During the treatment of acute gastroenteritis, many foods should be avoided. Greasy foods should not be eaten, such as fat, cream, fried foods, etc. Spicy and irritating foods should not be eaten, such as chili, wine, onion, curry, pepper, mustard powder, strong coffee, etc. Hard and high-fiber foods should not be eaten. Acidic foods and carbonated drinks should not be eaten. These foods can easily block digestion, irritate the gastric mucosa, and are not conducive to the recovery of gastric mucosal inflammation.

2 During the inflammatory period, the gastrointestinal function is weakened, so you should consume light, low-fat foods. It is best to eat liquid and soft foods, which are conducive to digestion and absorption and also reduce the burden on the gastrointestinal tract. Generally, it is cooked into porridge and drunk. In order to supplement the reduced nutritional intake due to food control, you can cook porridge with whole grains. The porridge should be cooked as soft as possible, and not have hard rice grains. The dishes should be mainly composed of tender green vegetables, and the green vegetables should not be too high in fiber. Eat less meat, and try to cook the meat in plain water without adding irritating spices such as ginger, garlic, and star anise. Although liquid food should be the main food, you should also drink less thick soup, drink light soup in moderation, and try not to drink milk.

3. Eat soft and liquid foods during the treatment of acute gastroenteritis until the symptoms are cured. When you have just recovered, your gastrointestinal function is actually not very weak, so you still need to maintain a diet mainly of liquid and soft foods. It is recommended to maintain this diet for another three months. During this period, you can gradually add other foods to supplement your nutrition, but you must control the amount, avoid spicy and stimulating foods, and never overeat.

Chronic gastroenteritis

1In addition to drug treatment, chronic gastroenteritis also depends on daily maintenance. Chronic gastroenteritis does not require you to avoid many foods like acute gastroenteritis, but you should also be careful to avoid spicy and irritating foods, do not overeat, eat small meals frequently, eat on time and in the right amount, and reduce the burden on your stomach and intestines. Tobacco, alcohol and carbonated drinks are prohibited.

2 If gastric acid secretion is reduced, such as in atrophic gastritis, you can eat delicious foods such as thick broth, fish soup, chicken soup, etc. to stimulate gastric acid secretion and promote appetite. You can eat a few hawthorns at each meal, preferably fresh hawthorns, to stimulate the secretion of gastric juice. You can eat sour fruits or juice, or drink yogurt. Yogurt can inhibit harmful bacteria from breaking down protein and producing toxins, while protecting the stomach from toxins, which is beneficial to the treatment and recovery of gastritis. Therefore, it is recommended to drink yogurt in moderation regularly.

3 For those with excessive gastric acid secretion (hyperacid gastritis), broth, fish broth, chicken broth and excessive amounts of umami food should be avoided. The meat can be cooked and the soup can be removed before cooking. The food should be cooked finely, minced, soft and rotten. Avoid frying and other cooking methods, and try to use steaming, boiling, braising, stewing and simmering as much as possible. You can drink milk, soy milk, eat steamed bread, noodles, and bread to neutralize stomach acid.

4 During the maintenance period of chronic gastroenteritis, pay attention to consuming more high-protein and high-vitamin foods to ensure that the body has adequate nutrients and prevent anemia and malnutrition. For people with anemia and malnutrition, they should add foods rich in protein and heme iron to their diet, such as lean meat, chicken, fish, as well as animal offal such as liver, kidney, and gizzard. Dark-colored foods are generally fresh vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins, such as green leafy vegetables, winged beans, tomatoes, eggplants, red dates, okra, purple okra, carrots, purple sweet potatoes, purple cabbage, purple cauliflower, etc.

5 Whether it is the late maintenance of acute gastroenteritis or the daily maintenance of chronic gastroenteritis, diet therapy can be used. There are many dietary recipes. You can look for them online or consult a doctor. Here is a recipe that has been proven effective by many friends and relatives. It is simple to make: 25 grams of ginkgo nuts, 200 grams of fresh pork stomach (try not to use pig stomach). First put the ginkgo nuts and water into the pot, bring the water to a boil over high heat, then add the pork stomach, then simmer over low heat until the pork stomach is soft. Take once a day, on an empty stomach or half full. If you have beeswax, you can add 2 grams of beeswax when the soup is cooked. The soup with added beeswax should be drunk while it is hot, otherwise the beeswax will solidify and precipitate, making your mouth greasy.

Everyone knows about the dietary precautions for acute gastroenteritis. Acute gastroenteritis must be treated with medication. Food can only serve as an auxiliary treatment and cannot replace medication. However, eating the right food can make acute gastroenteritis heal faster.
