How should Chinese medicine be taken?

Every time you take medicine, the doctor will always tell you what medicine to take and when to take it, how much dosage to take at a time, whether to take it before or after meals, and so on. Each medicine has different properties, and the doctor will arrange our medication method based on its medicinal properties. This phenomenon is generally the way of taking Western medicine. So do you know how to take Chinese medicine? Friends who are troubled by taking Chinese medicine, let’s take a look.

Chinese medicine is not like Western medicine, which only requires time and quantity. It has strict requirements on decoction method, administration method, dosage, taking time, taking temperature, etc.

First of all, there are temperature requirements for taking Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine classifies diseases such as gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer caused by exogenous wind-cold and cold evil invading the stomach as cold syndrome. The medicine juice must be taken hot to achieve the purpose of expelling wind-cold, strengthening the spleen and warming the middle. Cold medicines are used to treat febrile diseases, such as dry mouth, red tongue, constipation, etc. caused by pneumonia, bronchitis, wind-heat colds, etc., and should be taken cool or cold. For general decoctions, such as tonic Chinese medicine, you can take it warm.

Secondly, the time of taking medicine should be determined according to the condition and properties of the medicine. In general, tonic medicines should be taken before meals, anthelmintics and laxatives should be taken on an empty stomach, gastrointestinal irritants and other general medicines should be taken after meals, and tranquilizers should be taken before bedtime.

Again, pills and powders for internal use can be swallowed with warm boiled water. Adding wine is to promote its promotion and circulation, and taking them with light salt water is to guide the medicine into the kidneys. Of course, there are some more specific requirements for taking Chinese medicine, so you need to follow the doctor's instructions.

Finally, pay attention to the care after taking the medicine. For example, you need to lie down immediately after taking a diaphoretic drug, you should cover yourself with a quilt after taking a pungent and warm diaphoretic drug, but you should not cover yourself with a quilt after taking a pungent and cool diaphoretic drug. Anyone who takes diaphoretic drugs should only achieve slight sweating throughout the body, and not profuse sweating, in order to prevent collapse due to excessive sweating (especially in the elderly). If you find that you do not sweat after taking the medicine, you can drink some hot water or hot porridge to help the medicine work. After taking diaphoretic drugs, you should not eat sour food or cold drinks immediately.

The method of taking Chinese medicine is different from that of Western medicine. Have those friends who are taking Chinese medicine or planning to use Chinese medicine to treat diseases remembered the above methods? Traditional Chinese medicine has always said that all medicines are poisonous. While medicines are curing our physical diseases, they also silently bring some harm to our bodies. So everyone must take care of their bodies.
