Is pneumonia serious?

Is pneumonia serious?

If pneumonia occurs clinically, it is actually a disease that causes more harm to people's bodies. This disease may occur in all age groups and is likely to be serious. However, after becoming ill, patients will experience more obvious symptoms such as sputum, high fever, cough, and chest pain. Many people do not know how serious pneumonia is after they become ill and thus neglect formal treatment.

In fact, we must have a reasonable understanding of the severity of pneumonia. For example, if we find that our respiratory rate is greater than 30 times a minute, or our pulse is greater than 120 beats a minute, our blood pressure is less than 90, our temperature is greater than 40 degrees, and our consciousness is seriously impaired, then we can conclude that there is an extrapulmonary infection lesion. For example, meningitis or even sepsis (infectious poisoning).

Medical history: Age > 65 years old; presence of underlying diseases or related factors, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, chronic heart, renal insufficiency, chronic liver disease, hospitalization within one year, suspected aspiration, abnormal consciousness, post-splenectomy status, long-term alcoholism or malnutrition.

Laboratory and imaging abnormalities: blood white blood cell count >20X109/L; arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaCO2) >50mmHg when breathing air; blood creatinine >106umol/L or blood urea nitrogen >7.1mmol/L; hemoglobin <90g/L or hematocrit <0.30; plasma albumin 25g/L; evidence of infection or disseminated intravascular coagulation, such as positive blood culture, metabolic acidosis, prolonged prothrombin time and partially activated thromboplastin time, thrombocytopenia; chest X-ray lesions involving more than one lobe, cavitation, rapid spread of lesions, or pleural effusion.

In our lives, is pneumonia serious? In fact, the answer is yes. If you get pneumonia and cannot curb the deterioration of the disease in time, it will still cause many adverse conditions in your body. Therefore, after contracting pneumonia, promptly cooperating with the doctor's treatment is the best guarantee for your health.
