What causes dry mouth:

Local causes mainly include bad habits, local lesions and local radiotherapy. Among them, bad habits include breathing with the mouth open while sleeping, causing excessive saliva evaporation; heavy smoking causing chronic irritation to the oral cavity and poor hygiene habits; heavy drinking causing benign hypertrophy of the parotid gland, leading to decreased secretory function, etc. Local lesions include congenital salivary gland hypoplasia or absence; oral Candida albicans infection; local radiotherapy is more common in the maxillofacial and nasopharyngeal areas, which damages the salivary glands and causes decreased saliva secretion.

Frequent dry mouth may also be caused by certain diseases. Common causes include:

Oral diseases: such as poor alignment of upper and lower teeth, deviated nasal septum, enlarged inferior turbinate, nasal polyps, etc. These people often breathe through their mouths, and the air in and out of the mouth takes away more water, causing dry mouth.

Chronic lung disease: emphysema, chronic bronchitis, etc., especially some elderly people, whose lung function is generally poor and the body is severely hypoxic, so they often perform compensatory breathing with their mouths open. Once the lung function improves, the symptoms of dry mouth will be relieved.

Vitamin B2 deficiency: When the body lacks vitamin B2, it can also cause dry mouth, as well as ulcers at the corners of the mouth, dry throat, and tongue ulcers.

Through the above introduction, we have some understanding of what dry mouth and tongue are. Although it will not directly endanger human life, it is necessary to improve it in time after such phenomenon occurs, so that the problem will not continue to develop and induce other problems, causing certain damage to one's health.
