Wrist tenosynovitis

The hand is the most hardworking organ in our body, which makes it vulnerable to some diseases, such as wrist tenosynovitis. However, because wrist tenosynovitis only manifests as wrist pain or limited movement of the affected area, many patients attach great importance to the disease, fearing that improper treatment of wrist tenosynovitis will lead to sequelae. 1. Gently bend your wrist forward and hold it in the most flexed position for 5 seconds. Gently bend your wrist toward the back of your hand and hold it in the most dorsal position for 5 seconds.

2. Gently move the wrist joint toward the thumb and little finger sides of the hand, and hold the position at the most radial and ulnar positions for 5 seconds each. When practicing, do 3 sets a day, 10 times each set, and hold each position for 5 seconds each time.

3. First, press the back of the affected hand to bend the wrist joint as much as possible, and maintain the posture; then move the palm or fingers of the affected hand to extend the wrist joint as much as possible, and maintain the posture; pay attention to keeping the elbow joint of the affected side in a straight position.

4. Stand facing the table or windowsill, support the table with both palms, point your fingertips toward yourself, and keep your elbows straight;

5. Lean your body forward and feel a stretch on the back of your wrist.

6. When practicing, do 3 sets a day, 3 times each set, and persist for 15-30 seconds each time.

TCM Analysis

Tenosynovitis belongs to the category of "tendon injury" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is caused by excessive local labor, accumulated strain on the tendons, or exposure to cold, which leads to stagnation of Qi and blood and inability to nourish the meridians and tendons. Treatment should follow the principles of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, reducing swelling and relieving pain. It is necessary to expel the pathogenic external evils of cold and dampness, and to dredge the meridians and harmonize qi and blood so that qi and blood can flow smoothly, local circulation can be improved, and damaged tissues can be repaired, thereby achieving the purpose of healing. External plaster is the only method recognized by the medical community so far to cure wrist tenosynovitis, promote blood circulation and reduce swelling.

Treatment of tenosynovitis

The affected area can be treated with heat therapy, massage and sufficient rest for about 3 weeks, especially reducing manual labor that may cause the disease. Local blockade therapy can relieve early-stage tenosynovitis and should be performed once a week. If the above methods are ineffective or recur, a tenotomy should be performed, and finger flexion and extension exercises should be performed early after the operation to prevent tendon adhesion. No manual labor is required within 1 month after surgery.
