What causes cold left foot?

Nowadays, many people do not pay much attention to the health of their feet. They always choose to expose their ankles in winter, or go out barefoot with shoes on. In fact, these are very harmful to the feet. Many people have cold feet in winter due to poor blood circulation or problems with arterial joints, especially in many middle-aged and elderly people. What is the reason for the cold left foot?

Cold feet in the elderly should be alert to arteriosclerosis

Many elderly people feel that their feet are abnormally cold and numb, but they usually do not pay too much attention to it, thinking that these symptoms are just the natural aging of the body. In fact, this may very well be an early manifestation of lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans.

Patients usually feel slight coldness or numbness in their feet, and after moving or walking for a distance, they feel muscle pain, cramps or fatigue. They can continue to move forward after resting for a while. This is the "intermittent claudication" we mentioned above. The occurrence of intermittent claudication is often an early manifestation of arteriosclerosis. Therefore, the elderly should not take cold feet lightly. In addition, patients with arteriosclerosis may also experience limb pain, numbness and paresthesia when resting, especially cold feet or even cramps at night.

Cold feet and health

There are actually many ways to prevent arteriosclerosis. The first thing to do is to quit smoking. Nicotine and other harmful substances in tobacco can cause long-term spasmodic contraction of small blood vessels in the extremities, resulting in a sharp decrease in blood supply to the skin, muscles and nerve tissues. This effect will not only aggravate arteriosclerosis for patients with lower limb artery stenosis or occlusion, but will also cause severe ischemia in the limbs that are already undersupplied with blood.

The second thing is to control your diet, avoid high-sugar and high-fat foods, and pay attention to reducing cholesterol intake. Finally, proper exercise can relieve the symptoms of arteriosclerosis. Patients with "intermittent claudication" should not exercise excessively and should slow down when walking.

Cold feet should alert Raynaud's disease

Raynaud's disease, also known as arachnoid artery spasm, is a spasmodic disease of small arteries at the end of the limbs caused by vascular nerve dysfunction. When people suffer from this disease, they usually experience coldness in the extremities, such as toes and fingers, accompanied by pain, purple skin, flushing or intermittent whitening of the skin on the limbs. This disease is usually caused by cold or emotional excitement.

Neurasthenia can also cause cold feet

If you are overly nervous or under too much work pressure, it may sometimes cause cold feet.

Because keeping the mind in a state of excitement, extreme tension and excessive depression for a long time often causes neurasthenia, which leads to autonomic nervous dysfunction and a persistent feeling of coldness in the feet and lower limbs. It may also be accompanied by various discomforts such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, sweating, abdominal distension, headache, insomnia, frequent headaches, etc.

These various symptoms caused by mental problems usually do not show any abnormal signs during physical examinations, but over time, they will have a serious impact on the body. Therefore, no matter how stressful work or study pressure is, you should strike a balance between relaxation and tension and arrange your work and rest time reasonably.
