Pituitary tumors

Pituitary tumors

Most people probably feel that having a brain tumor is equivalent to having an incurable disease. In fact, it is really that serious, because the function of the brain plays a vital role in our body function. Without the brain, it is like a computer losing its host and is useless. Compared with tumors in other parts of the body, pituitary tumors pose greater and more serious damage and threats to life, and have a greater impact on people's quality of life.

Although it is so serious, it is not completely untreatable, because brain tumors are different from brain cancer. If they can be correctly recognized and treated early, it will be of great help to the condition and will also improve the patient's life.

Brain tumors require surgery, so don't delay.

1. Surgical treatment: The purpose of surgical treatment is to clarify the diagnosis, improve symptoms, reduce tumor burden, remove necrotic and hypoxic tissue, and create conditions for other treatments. The principle of surgical treatment is to remove the tumor as much as possible while preserving nerve function.

2. Radiotherapy: Regardless of the malignancy of brain glioma, patients who receive radiotherapy after surgery have a longer survival time than those who undergo surgery alone. During or after radiotherapy, the patient's symptoms and signs will improve to varying degrees. Radiotherapy is one of the important auxiliary treatments for brain glioma.

3. Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy for brain glioma tends to use several drugs in combination, with the aim of increasing efficacy and reducing toxicity. 4. Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy for glioma, including active immunization with tumor vaccines, injection of immune RNA into lymph nodes, and application of adoptive cell immunity, are all under study.

5. Chinese medicine treatment: It can be used as one of the comprehensive treatment measures and is suitable for some patients who are not suitable for surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy or postoperative recurrence.

So everyone does not need to be too nervous. Some brain tumors can be completely cured. Even in the worst case scenario, if they are not curable, it is entirely possible to prolong survival time with active treatment. Moreover, brain tumors are actually a relatively common disease in neurosurgery, and the incidence rate is also very high, so you must maintain confidence in recovery.
