Treatment of Colon Cancer

Treatment of Colon Cancer

Colon cancer is also known as rectal cancer. The human intestine is more than nine meters long. The rectum is the last part of the intestine, and the rectum is connected to the anus. An experienced doctor can diagnose rectal cancer with an accuracy of 80% or above by finger examination. Patients with early-stage colon cancer generally do not experience any physical discomfort. Patients should pay attention to their stools, as there may be pus and blood mixed in them. There is usually very little bright red blood.

Bright red blood on the outside of the stool usually indicates external hemorrhoids. Since the rectum is very close to the anus, rectal cancer may also cause bright red blood, which should be taken seriously by patients. With the development of medicine, colon cancer has made profound progress in treatment. Here we introduce the treatment of colon cancer.

The treatment of colon cancer is still based on radical cure by surgery, and surgery is still the preferred treatment for those with surgical indications. The radical surgery is a large resection of the primary lesion.

Colon cancer, like other cancers, is a systemic disease with mainly local manifestations. To date, the 5-year survival rate still hovers around 50%. Effective comprehensive treatment or appropriate adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy are areas that are increasingly receiving clinical attention, but there is still controversy and no encouraging results have been seen. Among those who fail treatment, local recurrence and metastasis, including the liver and lymph nodes, lungs, brain, etc., are common. Therefore, in addition to improving the diagnosis rate in the early or asymptomatic stages, clinicians should not only strive to improve the effectiveness of auxiliary treatments, but surgeons should also carefully design surgical treatments for each individual case and strive to improve the success rate of surgical cure. There should be planning for preoperative preparation, surgical design, postoperative follow-up, and auxiliary treatment at each stage. An individualized overall treatment plan is formulated based on the local tumor of each case, whether it has spread, and its extent.

After surgical resection of colon cancer, some treatment methods of traditional Chinese medicine can be used to assist in improving the patient's own immunity, improve the patient's spleen and stomach function, and improve the patient's quality of life. Colon cancer patients should also pay attention to their diet after surgery, not smoking, not drinking, not eating spicy foods, and eating less high-fat and high-protein foods.
