How to eliminate hiccups

Eating too fast can cause burping. Hiccups are called er ni in traditional Chinese medicine. Some are caused by the upward flow of stomach gas, while others are caused by eating too spicy food. Long-term hiccups are not good for the trachea, so after hiccups occur, timely treatment should be sought to eliminate the effects of hiccups. So, what are some ways to eliminate hiccups in daily life?

Breath-holding

Hold your head and chest up, take a deep breath in with all your strength and hold it. Do not exhale until you can no longer hold it and then exhale. This will stop the hiccups.

Water-containing method

Holding a mouthful of water in your mouth for 10 to 20 seconds and then swallowing it can also quickly stop hiccups.

Press Neiguan acupoint

The Neiguan point is located on the inner side of the wrist, about 6-7 cm away from the palm, as shown in the picture below. Press the Neiguan point with your thumb for a few minutes until you feel a sore and swollen feeling, which can eliminate hiccups.

Middle finger pinch

If it is difficult to press the Neiguan acupoint, you can use the middle finger pinching method. Use one hand to pinch the top of the middle finger of the other hand hard. Usually, the hiccups can stop after 2 minutes.

Diet therapy

Drinking some vinegar, eating hawthorn, and chewing ginger slices can all stop hiccups.

Tongue depression

Find a clean spoon. If you can't find a spoon, wash your hands, put your index and middle fingers together and put them into your mouth to press down your tongue. After a few minutes, the hiccups will generally stop.

Ten tips to control hiccups

1. Wash the raw leeks, squeeze out the juice and drink it orally.

2. Drink boiled water, especially slightly hot boiled water. Take a big sip and swallow it in several times.

3. Take a deep breath first, then hold it for as long as possible, then exhale, and repeat several times.

4. Use your fingernails, match heads or toothpicks to press and stimulate the helix for 1 to 3 minutes.

5. Wash your hands, insert your index finger into your mouth, and gently stimulate your throat.

6. Put the mixed gas into a plastic bag and inhale it. The mixed gas contains 90% oxygen and 10% carbon dioxide.

7. Roll a piece of soft paper into a thin thread, put it into the nasal cavity and twist it gently. Sneeze to stop the hiccups.

8. Distract attention, eliminate tension and negative stimulation.

9. Take 20 persimmon stalks (referring to the stalks of fresh persimmons or persimmon cakes), decoct them in water into 100 ml, and take orally in two doses, 50 ml each time. You can also add leek seeds when frying.

10. Massage can also be used to treat hiccups and have a good effect. The patient lies on his back, and the masseur presses the two fish waist points (the midpoint of the eyebrows) with the thumbs of both hands at the same time, pressing from bottom to top, with force from light to heavy (local massage can be performed), and the patient will feel soreness and swelling. During the massage, the patient should hold his breath and then exhale forcefully, repeating this two or three times to stop the hiccups. If there is no improvement, repeat it after 24 hours. Patients can also use this method on their own. Do not exceed 2 minutes at a time, as too long a time will cause bradycardia.
