How to Treat Emphysema

How to Treat Emphysema

Emphysema is a common disease in our human body, and this disease is actually a type of lung disease. However, the harm of emphysema is still very serious, so most people are still afraid of being infected with emphysema. It is for this reason that many people are very interested in how to treat emphysema. Although no one wants to suffer from emphysema, if you accidentally suffer from emphysema, the most important thing is to treat it.

People who have suffered from emphysema know that emphysema can cause great harm to the patient's body. In many cases, this disease will affect the patient's entire body. Therefore, people with emphysema are generally very painful when the disease occurs. This is also a major reason why many patients are eager to cure emphysema. So, let’s take a detailed look at the methods for treating emphysema.

Emphysema refers to a pathological state in which the airway elasticity at the distal end of the terminal bronchioles is reduced, over-expanded, inflated, and the lung volume increases, or is accompanied by airway wall destruction. According to the cause of the disease, emphysema has the following types: senile emphysema, compensatory emphysema, interstitial emphysema, focal emphysema, paraseptal emphysema, and obstructive emphysema.

Causes

The pathogenesis of obstructive pulmonary emphysema is not yet fully understood. It is generally believed to be related to bronchial obstruction and protease-antiprotease imbalance. Smoking, infection and air pollution can cause bronchiolar inflammation, stenosis or obstruction of the bronchial lumen. When inhaling, the lumen of the bronchioles expands and air enters the alveoli; when exhaling, the lumen shrinks, air is trapped, and the intra-alveolar pressure continues to increase, causing the alveoli to over-expand or even rupture. The loss of radial traction around the bronchioles causes the bronchioles to contract and narrow. Thickening of the pulmonary vascular endothelium, reduced blood supply to the alveolar wall, weakened alveolar elasticity, etc., all contribute to the rupture of expanded alveoli. In cases of infection, the activity of proteases in the body increases. People with α1-antitrypsin deficiency have a weakened ability to inhibit proteases, making them more susceptible to emphysema.

treat

1. Appropriate use of bronchodilator drugs

Such as aminophylline and β2 receptor stimulants. When the condition requires, glucocorticoids can be used appropriately.

2. Use effective antibiotics based on pathogens or experience

Such as penicillins, aminoglycosides, quinolones and cephalosporins.

3. Breathing function exercises

Do abdominal breathing, purse your lips and exhale deeply and slowly to strengthen the activity of the respiratory muscles. Increase diaphragm activity.

4. Home oxygen therapy

Giving oxygen for 12 to 15 hours a day can prolong life. If continuous oxygen therapy can be achieved 24 hours a day, the effect will be better.

5. Physical therapy

Develop a plan based on the condition, such as Tai Chi, breathing exercises, regular walking or stair climbing exercises.

prevention

The first thing is to quit smoking. Keep warm, avoid catching cold, and prevent colds. Improve environmental hygiene, take good personal labor protection measures, and eliminate and avoid the effects of smoke, dust and irritating gases on the respiratory tract.

After understanding the above introduction, I believe most people should have a certain degree of understanding on how to treat emphysema. Through understanding, we will find that there are still many methods to treat emphysema in our reality, such as: the use of bronchodilator drugs; effective use of antibiotics; respiratory function training; physical therapy, etc.
