Treatment of central nervous system damage

Treatment of central nervous system damage

The central nervous system is the most advanced nerve system in the human body. Basically, all life activities of our body need to be carried out through the instructions issued by the central nervous system. It can be seen how important it is. If the damage to the central nervous system is serious, it is likely to cause the patient to become paralyzed or become a vegetable. Let's take a look at the relevant information about central nervous system damage.

1. Injury examination

Check for any wounds. If any, check their extent and depth, soft tissue damage, and presence of infection. Identify the path of the bullet or shrapnel injury and whether there is vascular injury,

Fracture or dislocation, etc. If the wound has healed, observe the scar condition and whether there is aneurysm or arteriovenous fistula formation.

2. Body posture

Observe the limbs for deformities. Radial nerve injury with wrist drop

; Injury to the ulnar nerve can cause claw hand, that is, hyperextension of the metacarpophalangeal joints of the 4th and 5th fingers and flexion of the interphalangeal joints; injury to the median nerve can cause ape hand; injury to the common peroneal nerve can cause foot drop, etc. If the time is too long, the antagonistic muscles lose balance and may cause

Changes such as joint contractures.

3. Examination of motor function

Nerve damage and its degree are determined based on the muscle paralysis, and muscle strength is differentiated using a six-grade method. Level 0: no muscle contraction; Level 1: slight muscle contraction; Level 2: full joint mobility can be achieved without resisting the direction of gravity; Level 3: full joint mobility can be achieved by resisting the direction of gravity, but no resistance can be added; Level 4: full joint mobility can be achieved by resisting the direction of gravity and adding a certain amount of resistance; Level 5: normal. Peripheral nerve damage causes muscle paralysis and loss of tension, which is progressive

Muscle atrophy. Depending on the degree of nerve damage, muscle strength will vary as mentioned above. During the nerve recovery process, muscle atrophy gradually disappears. If you persist in exercising, you can make continuous progress.

4. Examination of sensory function

Check the pain, touch, temperature, two-point distinction and the range of changes to determine the degree of nerve damage. Generally, pain and touch sensations are sufficient. Note whether the sensory supply area is a single nerve or other nerves overlap, which can be compared with the unaffected skin. The sense of reality and light touch are fine sensations, while the sense of pain and deep touch are coarse sensations. After nerve repair, gross sensation is restored sooner and better. The degree of sensory dysfunction can also be distinguished by a six-level method: Level 0 - no sensation at all; Level 1 - deep pain sensation exists; Level 2 - pain sensation and partial touch sensation; Level 3 - complete pain and touch sensation; Level 4 - complete pain and touch sensation, and there is a distinction between two points, but the distance is large; Level 5 - completely normal sensation.

5. Nutritional changes

After nerve damage, the skin in the innervated area becomes cold, sweat-free, smooth, and atrophied. Sciatic nerve injury often causes plantar pressure ulcers

, frostbite of feet. Areas of anhidrosis or hypohidrosis generally correspond to the range of sensory loss.

Central nervous system injuries include cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction, which are relatively harmful diseases. Common symptoms include incontinence, language disorders and other neurological disorders. Severe cases can even cause death. Therefore, patients are advised to actively receive treatment and not delay the disease and waste treatment time. They should pay attention to damage to the nervous system caused by trauma.
