How to Prevent Gout

Gout is a common disease in our lives, but most people don’t know much about it. What many people often see is the pain that some gout patients suffer when they have an attack. This shows that gout can cause great harm to the human body. Many experts believe that in order for ordinary people like us to avoid gout, we must prevent gout in our daily lives. So, how to prevent gout?

In fact, many gout patients also want to understand this aspect, because they are deeply harmed by gout, so they know how harmful gout is to the human body. It is necessary for them to prevent gout from happening again after curing the gout disease. So, in response to this problem, let’s introduce in detail the methods to prevent gout.

Daily prevention

For patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia, prevention of gout attacks usually relies on non-drug treatment, which mainly includes diet control and abstinence from alcohol, and avoidance of drugs that increase blood uric acid levels, such as diuretics, low-dose aspirin, compound antihypertensive tablets, pyrazinamide, nifedipine, and propranolol. If blood uric acid is still higher than 9 mg/dl after dietary control, uric acid-lowering drugs can be used. For patients in the intermittent period who have experienced acute gouty arthritis, recurrence of gout should be prevented. The key is to control the blood uric acid level to the standard through diet and drug treatment. In addition, they should pay attention to avoid strenuous exercise or injury, control weight, drink plenty of water, and alkaline urine for a long time.

Dietary prevention

During holiday gatherings, you should eat in moderation, especially avoid eating too much seafood and other foods high in purine. In the past, whenever someone experienced pain in their feet, ankles, and knees after eating delicious fish and shrimp, they went to the hospital for a check-up and found that the uric acid level in their blood was significantly increased, and they were diagnosed with gout.

In order to prevent and treat gout, try to eat three more and three less:

1. Drink more water and less soup

People with high blood uric acid levels and gout patients should drink boiled water regularly and drink less meat, fish, chicken soup, hot pot soup, etc. The osmotic pressure of boiled water is most conducive to dissolving various harmful substances in the body. Drinking more boiled water can dilute uric acid and accelerate excretion, thereby lowering uric acid levels. Soup contains a large amount of purine components, which not only fails to dilute uric acid but instead causes an increase in uric acid.

2. Eat more alkaline foods

Eat less acidic food. Gout patients have purine metabolism disorders and abnormal uric acid. If they eat too much acidic food, it will aggravate the condition and is not conducive to recovery. Eating more alkaline food can help supplement potassium, sodium and chloride ions and maintain acid-base balance.

3. Eat more vegetables and less meals

Eating more vegetables can help reduce purine intake, increase vitamin C, and increase fiber, while eating less can help control calorie intake, limit weight, lose weight, and reduce fat.

Patients with acute gouty arthritis should try to eat less high-purine foods such as yeast, pancreas, concentrated gravy, jerky, sardines, anchovies, animal hearts, etc. They can eat low-purine alkaline foods such as grapes, oranges, hawthorn, tomatoes, apples, coffee, tea, milk, eggs, seaweed, etc.

Through the above introduction, we will find that there are actually many methods to prevent gout in reality, but they generally manifest themselves in two aspects. The first is daily prevention, and the second is dietary prevention. But in general, the prevention of gout generally includes: diet, medication, daily life, etc. Therefore, everyone must pay attention to these aspects in the future life in order to achieve the most comprehensive prevention of gout.
