What to do if your fingers are swollen

What to do if your fingers are swollen

In modern life, people's living habits are becoming more and more casual, and swollen and painful fingers seem to have become a common occurrence. However, swollen and painful fingers are also a disease that cannot be ignored. Don’t think that it is just swollen fingers, it may hide greater dangers. There are many reasons for swollen and painful fingers, including bone hyperplasia, rheumatism, malnutrition or tenosynovitis.

Since there are so many reasons for swollen and painful fingers, in order to better prescribe the right medicine, we must learn how to correctly judge the causes of swollen and painful fingers. Bone hyperplasia is generally accompanied by enlarged joints, and edema is obvious. If it is rheumatism, it is generally accompanied by a little redness and swelling. Below we will introduce simple protection and self-treatment methods.

Common finger swelling is caused by tenosynovitis, which will usually recover on its own in about a month, so don't worry too much. Of course, if you feel a lot of pain or are worried, you can make a simple judgment first: the metacarpophalangeal joints of the little fingers of both hands are stiff, and there is a feeling of sticking when they are bent to most of the way; the inner side of the entire index finger of the left hand is swollen and painful, especially when it is bent, the inner side of the finger feels tight and painful, and the fingers feel swollen, which will be relieved after moving for a while. So this is tenosynovitis. Just wait for gradual recovery or take Chinese medicine to recover, don't worry too much. Swelling can also be reduced quickly through self-massage.

If it is edema, it is basically caused by malnutrition. You can do it in the following ways: (1) Improve nutrition, adopt a low-salt diet, and eat more green fruits and vegetables. (2) Pay attention to rest. After resting at night, the edema can be reduced or absorbed and disappear. Try to lie down as much as possible. (3) If the problem is caused by impaired microcirculation in the hands, you can massage your hands more and exercise more. (4) You can use 50% magnesium sulfate hot compress for 30 minutes each time, which is very effective. (5) Physical therapy is more effective, such as heat therapy, massage, etc. (6) If your fingers are always numb, it may be due to blood vessel blockage and poor blood flow. If there is no improvement in about a week, you should get checked for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as high blood lipids, hypercoagulable state, or blood vessel blockage.

Here are some small exercises to treat swollen fingers:

1) Make your fist: Before getting up every morning, make your fist in bed. The speed should not be too fast, but you should clench your fist tightly. Do it 50-100 times a day. 2) Spread your fingers: Do this exercise before getting up, and alternate with clenching your fists. Do it 50-100 times a day. 3) Warm water bath for hands: After getting up, you can soak your hands in warm water for 20 minutes, and keep the water temperature at around 50℃. 4) Wrist flexion and extension exercises: Move your wrist joints after getting up. Generally, the number of times should not be too many, about 30 times is enough.

In addition, we should also consider the problems of qi and blood deficiency, liver and kidney deficiency. Generally, people replenish the body's yang energy by eating more red bean porridge or taking kidney-strengthening medicines. It is best to combine it with rest treatment.

Swollen fingers are also a disease that should not be underestimated. Use the above method to first determine the cause of the swelling, then prescribe the right medicine, and then do some small exercises to treat the swelling. These can generally effectively relieve the symptoms of the swelling. If there is no effect after a few months, for the sake of your own health, you should go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.
