Placenta Benefits

Placenta Benefits

What are the effects of placenta, or what benefits can placenta bring us after eating it? Before we answer this question, we need to understand what placenta is. In fact, placenta is the human placenta. We know that human placenta is a very healthy food, so we don’t have to be afraid. Since placenta can be used as a medicine, it can also become a material for our health-preserving diet therapy.

Placenta has a wide range of benefits and works very quickly. It can be used in many aspects, for example, it is very effective in fighting infection because it can enhance our body's immunity. In addition, placenta can promote the functioning of our hormones.

Placenta, also known as human placenta, is the placenta delivered by a healthy pregnant woman. "Compendium of Materia Medica" explains its name as: "Before the heaven and the earth, the ancestor of yin and yang, the beginning of heaven and earth, the embryo is about to appear, and when the number of nines is enough, the fetus will ride on it and travel to the Buddhist kingdom of the West, the fairy mountains of the South China Sea, drift in the fairyland of Penglai, and the Milky Way, so it is called the river cart." It is red when it is delivered from the mother, and turns purple after a while, hence the name purple placenta.

Anti-infective effect

Placental gamma-globulin contains antibodies such as measles and influenza, as well as diphtheria antitoxin, which can be used to prevent or alleviate infectious diseases such as measles. Because it is a protein, it is ineffective when taken orally and must be injected. Placental gamma-globulin also contains interferon, which can be used clinically to prevent or control viral infections. The placenta also contains lysozyme, which can prevent the death of mice (intraperitoneal injection) caused by endotoxins of Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Shigella flexneri; it also has a certain protective effect on endotoxin damage to rats; but it has no effect on endotoxemia caused by Escherichia coli.

Enhance body resistance

Oral administration of placenta powder to mice can reduce their tuberculosis lesions, and in test tubes it can actually promote the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Therefore, it is believed that its main effect is to increase the body's resistance. The hydrochloric acid hydrolysis product of the defatted placenta was injected intraperitoneally into rats, and it had a significant inhibitory effect on hepatic fat deposition caused by carbon tetrachloride and ethylthiobutyric acid (Ethionin). Subcutaneous injection of human placenta extract into mice can prolong their swimming time; intramuscular injection into rats also has a certain preventive and therapeutic effect on certain experimental types of gastric ulcers (reserpine-induced, stress-induced, ligation of the lower part of the pylorus, etc.).

Hormone-like effects

Physiologically, the placenta can produce chorionic gonadotropin, which has little effect on the ovaries but has a stimulating effect on the testicles. In addition, it can also produce estrogen and progesterone. The placenta may contain these hormones and thus have the pharmacological effects of these hormones. Human chorionic gonadotropin is a protein substance that is ineffective when taken orally and requires injection. Injecting placental extract into lactating rabbits seems to promote their development. It can significantly promote the development of the thymus, spleen, uterus, vagina, mammary gland, etc. It also has a promoting effect on the thyroid gland and testicles, but has almost no effect on the pituitary gland, adrenal gland, ovary, pancreas, liver, and kidney.

Above we introduced what placenta is. In fact, placenta is the human placenta. The functions of placenta are very wide. It is effective in anti-infection. It can also improve the body's resistance and promote the functioning of hormones. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, placenta can nourish the kidneys.
