TCM treatment for urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection is a relatively common disease. Symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, and pain during urination are common in postmenopausal women. Women have short urethras, and poor hygiene can lead to urinary tract infection. Severe cases of urinary tract infection will affect the patient's life and work. Urinary tract infection is a disease caused by sensitive bacteria. There are two types of urinary tract infection.

Urinary tract infection is divided into simple urinary tract infection and complicated urinary tract infection. The treatment of simple urinary tract infection is relatively simple. Commonly used drugs are compound shiwei capsule and second-generation cephalosporin. Complex urinary tract infection is more difficult to treat. Many patients seek traditional Chinese medicine treatment for urinary tract infection:

Urinary tract infection can be divided into acute phase and remission phase for dialectical treatment.

1. Acute Phase

1. Damp-heat in bladder

Symptoms: frequent urination, short, astringent and painful urination, dripping, urgent and burning sensation, yellow and red urine, cramped and swollen pain in the lower abdomen, or fever and chills, bitter taste in the mouth and nausea, or low back pain that refuses to be pressed, or constipation, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, and slippery and rapid pulse.

The treatment should be to clear away heat, purge fire, promote dampness and relieve stranguria. The prescription uses Ba Zheng San with modifications, including 6g of Akebia, 10g of Dianthus Superbus, 10g of Polygonum multiflorum, 15g of Plantago seed, 6g of Gardenia fruit, 30g of Talcum, 6g of Rhubarb (added later), 10g of Juncus effusus, 30g of Taraxacum mongolicum, and 6g of raw licorice.

2. Damp-heat in the triple burner

Symptoms: chills and high fever, severe heat in the afternoon, heavy and painful body, chest tightness without hunger, dry mouth without desire to drink, fullness in the abdomen, nausea and vomiting, turbid urine, painful and astringent urination, thick or greasy yellow tongue coating, and a weak or slippery pulse. The treatment should be to promote the flow of qi in the three burners and clear away dampness and heat. The prescription of choice is Sanren Decoction. 10g of almond, 30g of raw coix seed, 12g of white amaranth seed, 10g of Magnolia officinalis, 12g of processed Pinellia ternata, 6g of white tongcao, 30g of talc, and 9g of bamboo leaf.

2. Remission Period

The acute symptoms have been relieved, the course of the disease is more than 6 months, the pain and difficulty urinating are not very obvious, the symptoms come and go, and there is back pain, fatigue and weakness. The acute attack is often caused by fatigue or cold.

1. Spleen and Kidney Qi Deficiency

Symptoms: fatigue, poor appetite, abdominal distension, back pain, frequent and clear urination or frequent urination at night, loose and soft stools, occasional feeling of urination being difficult but not very noticeable, pale tongue with a thin white coating, and a deep, thready and weak pulse. The treatment should be to invigorate Qi, strengthen the spleen and tonify the kidney, while assisting with the effect of removing dampness Prescription: Qingquan Drink. Codonopsis pilosula 15g, Astragalus membranaceus 15g, Chinese yam 15g, Poria cocos 15g, Lycium barbarum 15g, Cuscuta australis 12g, Coix seed 30g, Plantago seed 15g (wrapped in cloth), Pyrola 30g, and Licorice 3g.

Traditional Chinese medicine is very effective in treating urinary tract infections. Many people think that traditional Chinese medicine is a slow-moving medicine and has unique advantages in treating chronic diseases. In fact, traditional Chinese medicine involves all areas of disease and can even treat some acute diseases with better results than Western medicine. Urinary tract infection belongs to the category of stranguria in traditional Chinese medicine.
