According to the different causes and clinical manifestations, it is divided into three types: cold-dampness type, blood stasis type and kidney deficiency type. For different types of lumbar disc herniation, the cupping points and methods are different.

1. Cold and damp type

Symptoms: Cold and heavy pain in the waist, which is aggravated on rainy days or when the waist is cold. The painful area prefers warmth and is difficult to turn. The pain does not subside when lying still, or is accompanied by numbness, heavy pain in the lower limbs, fatigue, or lack of warmth in the extremities, loss of appetite and abdominal distension.

Acupoints: Shenshu, Yaoyangguan, Yinlingquan, Weizhong.

Cupping method: Cupping after acupuncture. First insert the needle, leave the needle in for 10 minutes after getting qi, then remove the needle, and then cupping, leave the cup in for 10 minutes. After removing the cup, warm and moxibustion the painful areas on the waist and along the lower limbs for 20 minutes, until the skin flushes and the body feels comfortable. Do it once a day, and 5 times constitute a course of treatment.

2. Blood Stasis Type

Symptoms: Low back pain like stabbing, fixed pain, lighter during the day and heavier at night, painful area refuses to be pressed, mild cases have difficulty bending forward or backward, severe cases cannot turn over, dark face and lips, accompanied by numbness and pain in the lower limbs, or brief acupuncture-like aggravation, pain worsens after lower limb movement, or accompanied by hematuria, acute and violent disease, sudden onset, and a history of sprains, bruises, and trauma.

Acupoints selected: Diaphragm Shu, Shen Shu, Ci Liao, Xue Hai, Wei Zhong.

Cupping method: blood pricking cupping. The Weizhong point is pricked with a three-edged needle to induce bleeding, and the appropriate amount of bleeding is 3 to 5 ml. The remaining 4 points are lightly pricked with a plum blossom needle until the skin turns slightly red. Cupping is then performed, and the cup is left on for 10 minutes. This should be done once a day, and 5 times constitute a course of treatment.

3. Kidney deficiency type

Symptoms: Low back pain is mainly characterized by soreness and weakness, which is relieved by pressing and kneading, and is aggravated by exertion. It often recurs, accompanied by weakness in the waist and knees, or irritability, insomnia, dry mouth and throat. Or the hands and feet may be cold, and the patient may feel short of breath and weak.

Acupoints: Shenshu, Large Intestineshu, Ciliao, Weizhong, Chengshan.

Cupping method: moxibustion cupping. You can directly and gently moxibustion each acupoint for 15 minutes through aconite tablets or moxa sticks, and then perform cupping, leaving the cup for 10 minutes, once a day, and 5 times constitute a course of treatment.
