Is osteopathic treatment effective for lumbar disc herniation?

There are many bad habits in our lives that can easily lead to the occurrence of lumbar disc herniation, such as sitting or standing for a long time, or not paying attention to waist exercise in normal times. As age increases, it can easily lead to the occurrence of lumbar disc herniation. The treatment of this disease in traditional Chinese medicine is far superior to that of Western medicine. For example, bone setting is a method used by traditional Chinese medicine to treat lumbar disc herniation. So, is bone setting effective in treating lumbar disc herniation?

There are many schools of bone-setting techniques in clinical practice. When treating lumbar disc herniation, most bone-setting techniques target the lumbar intervertebral joints and sacroiliac joints rather than the intervertebral discs. According to my personal experience, bone-setting techniques can be used to loosen the locked lumbar intervertebral joints and sacroiliac joints, allowing them to return to a normal and coordinated state of movement, so that the patient's mobility can be improved.

At the same time, the bone and joint structure is always the foundation of soft tissue. If the bone and joint structure is twisted and dislocated, the tension circulation of the surrounding soft tissue will be affected. (including muscles, nerves, and blood vessels). As the saying goes, "Bone is out of joint, tendon is out of place."

After the bone-setting technique restores the joint position to normal, the starting and ending points of the soft tissue return to normal, and its tension and circulation can also return to normal, so that the corresponding symptoms will be alleviated. As the saying goes, "When the bones are straight, the tendons are naturally flexible."

Therefore, some patients can achieve therapeutic effects through bone setting techniques. But I personally think that bone-setting techniques are more suitable for patients whose spinal canal mass and nerve compression are not very serious.

Regarding the question of whether osteopathy is effective in treating lumbar disc herniation, first of all, it depends on whether the doctor you choose is a professional doctor. If it is an osteopath in some massage parlor, it is generally difficult to achieve the effect of treating lumbar disc herniation, so it is recommended that patients must be careful in their selection.
