Trauma can cause intratesticular bleeding and hematoma, which results in testicular blood supply obstruction and testicular atrophy. Therefore, the affected side is smaller than the contralateral testicle. The mumps virus can damage the seminiferous tubule cells of the testicles, causing atrophy of one side of the testicle.
