Can pleural effusion be treated with traditional Chinese medicine?

I believe everyone has a certain understanding of pleural effusion. If it is not treated in time, it will cause greater harm to the patient. With the development of medicine, there are still many methods to treat pleural effusion, and many technologies are already very mature. Below, the editor will introduce several common treatment methods for you. You can refer to them for reference and hope they will be helpful in treating your diseases.

1. Surgery

1. Pleural shunt. In recent years, the clinical use of shunts for thoracoabdominal shunt is a new method for treating malignant pleural effusion. This method is simple and safe, and is especially suitable for patients with "encapsulated lung syndrome" and patients whose lungs cannot re-expand. Other conventional therapies are often ineffective for these patients. Although shunt surgery cannot prevent the occurrence of pleural effusion, it can keep it stable, thereby alleviating symptoms and achieving the purpose of palliative treatment.

2. Closed drainage. The use of disposable infusion sets to modify closed chest drainage tubes to treat malignant pleural effusions has no toxic side effects and an overall effective rate of about 90%.

2. Chemotherapy

1. Intrathoracic chemotherapy. Compared with other treatment methods for pleural effusion, this method has more outstanding therapeutic effect. The total effective rate of intrapleural injection of Pseudomonas vaccine in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion was 82.7%.

2. Corynebacterium brevis. The effective rate of intrathoracic injection of Corynebacterium brevis in the treatment of pleural effusion with closed thoracic drainage was 86.7%, with a marked effect of 66.0%. The effective rate of the control group was 73.3%, with a marked effect of 50%, indicating that intrathoracic injection of Corynebacterium brevis has certain clinical value.

3. Immunotherapy

The use of allogeneic lymphokine-activated killer cells (LAK) combined with recombinant interleukin-2 (RIL-2) for intrathoracic injection in the treatment of advanced lung cancer pleural effusion was completely effective in 55%, partially effective in 36%, and ineffective in 9%.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Studies have shown that there are many causes of emphysema, but the most common causes are smoking, air pollution, infection, etc. Cigarettes contain many harmful ingredients, such as tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide. Smokers are particularly likely to develop emphysema or chronic bronchitis and die from respiratory failure or cor pulmonale. Moreover, under similar climatic and economic conditions, the incidence of emphysema in areas with severe air pollution is higher than that in areas with less pollution. 2 Patients with early emphysema generally do not have any obvious symptoms. They just feel short of breath during normal work or exercise, but it is generally not serious and not easy to detect. As emphysema becomes more and more serious, patients will feel short of breath with just a little exercise, or even when doing nothing.

3 Emphysema in its early stages is generally not easy to detect. As the disease worsens, symptoms include decreased appetite, general fatigue, and increasing weight loss. In daily life, if the condition is not serious, some physical therapy can be appropriately performed, such as: practicing Tai Chi, climbing stairs, walking in a fixed amount, etc. If conditions permit, appropriate oxygen therapy can be carried out, and it is best to achieve 24-hour continuous oxygen therapy.

Above we introduced two methods of treating pleural effusion. Now everyone should understand how to treat left-sided pleural effusion. It is recommended that patients go to a regular hospital for treatment and let the doctor help develop the most suitable treatment plan based on their condition, so that the disease can be treated more effectively.
