I remember I had a consultant doctor in Shanghai before. He told me that most people don’t die of starvation but of overeating. Eating indiscriminately is bad for health. Many things eaten at a banquet should be vomited out.

As the saying goes, "Diseases come from the mouth." High blood pressure, high blood lipids, and diabetes, which one is not caused by what you eat? Eating too much even though your body doesn't need it will only harm your health. Eat healthily. No one dies of starvation, only gets sick from overeating. In terms of diet, he cannot eat many meat dishes and does not eat fried meat. He mainly eats eggs, vegetables, milk and tofu. But you can't eat too much milk and eggs. Eat one egg a day, and drink a cup of black tea in the morning and afternoon.

The second sentence: Be broad-minded and live a long life. I will not get angry no matter what happens!

I don't care much about anything outside of my body. There is a saying in Buddhism that if you attach too much importance to material things, you will suffer mentally. Many years ago I suffered from insomnia and couldn't sleep. During the Cultural Revolution, I was sent down to the countryside, but my insomnia was cured and I no longer suffer from insomnia until now. Therefore, my wife and I both believe in the saying: "A blessing in disguise." When encountering any setbacks, don't be disappointed or angry.

I don’t have the chance to wear the beautiful clothes that others give me because I seldom go out, and I don’t feel free when I wear them. I don’t travel much. I just write, drink tea, read books and cultivate my character at home.

It was previously believed that we could not live a long life because our health was not very good when we were young. I had tuberculosis and suffered from depression when I was young. When we got married, my mother secretly found a fortune teller to tell our fortunes. The fortune teller said that the couple could only live to be 35 years old. We just laughed it off. I think the fortune teller was right. It is we ourselves who changed our lifespan.

Our life is relatively simple and regular. We don’t eat randomly, smoke, or drink. If we drink, we only drink beer. In the past, when guests came, we would offer them cigarettes. We would buy very good cigarettes and let the guests smoke, but we would not smoke ourselves. I think life should be regular and I should have a broad mind. If I encounter many difficulties, it won’t matter as long as I have a broad mind.

Fourth sentence: Even in old age, I have always adhered to the "Three No's"!

As I grow old, I have always adhered to the "three no's" principle: one, no will, two, no birthdays, and three, no New Year's Day.

Without a will, the family will be harmonious; without celebrating birthdays, one will forget one’s age; without celebrating the New Year, life will be dull. The simpler our daily lives become, the better, and the fewer our needs are, the better.

Fifth sentence: Husband and wife should "raise their glasses to the same level as their eyebrows"

When my wife Chang Yun-ho (93) was alive, we drank tea in the morning and afternoon. I like to drink coffee, and she likes to drink good tea, "raising the cup to her eyebrows". Our theory is that married life should be based not only on love but also on respect. In ancient times, couples would “hold the case together with their eyebrows”, but today we don’t have a case, so we just “hold the cup together with our eyebrows”.

We raise our glasses when drinking tea or coffee. We have been doing this little action for a lifetime. Although it is a small thing, it is very useful and adds fun and stability to family life. Husband and wife should respect and honor each other. This is a tradition passed down from ancient times and it makes a lot of sense. A husband and wife are the people who live together the longest. Only if they are happy every day can they be healthy both physically and mentally. On the contrary, if you quarrel every three days and fight every five days, not only will everyone be unhappy, but it will also harm your body and health.

Many things in the world cannot go smoothly. If you suffer a loss, just suffer it. It’s no big deal. Be broad-minded and don’t get angry. Many things in the family are just small things.
