The difference between raw silver and processed silver

The difference between raw silver and processed silver

I don't know if you know that silver is also divided into raw silver and wrought silver, just like iron is divided into raw iron and wrought iron. Many friends are confused about raw silver and wrought silver. First of all, they don't know what these two substances are, and secondly, they don't know what the difference is between the two. To help you better understand the relevant issues, the following article will specifically talk about the difference between raw silver and wrought silver. If you are interested, you can read the article, which may be helpful to you!

Raw silver is commonly known as industrial silver, which is refined silver. Generally, silver marked as 92 or 95 in silver shops is basically raw silver. This silver cannot be eaten (soaked in water, etc.). Refined silver is refined again based on raw silver. Only the silver marked as 999 pure silver is refined silver. This silver can be used to soak water and make tea.

Properties of Silver

Silver dissolves in nitric acid to form silver nitrate. Silver does not react easily with sulfuric acid, so sulfuric acid can be used in jewelry manufacturing to clean copper oxide fire marks left after silver soldering and annealing. Silver reacts easily with sulfur and hydrogen sulfide to form black silver sulfide, which is common on tarnished silver coins or other items. Silver can react with oxygen at high temperatures to form brown silver oxide. Metallic silver can be attacked by strong oxidizing agents such as potassium permanganate or potassium dichromate in the presence of potassium bromide (KBr); these compounds are used in photography to bleach the visible image, converting it to silver halide, which can either be removed by sodium thiosulfate or redeveloped to strengthen the original image.

Sterling Silver Application

Pure silver is a beautiful silvery-white metal with good ductility. Its electrical conductivity and heat conductivity of silver bars are the highest among all metals. Silver is often used to make extremely sensitive physical instrument components, various automated devices, rockets, submarines, computers, nuclear devices, and communication systems. A large number of contact points in all these devices are made of silver. During use, each contact point will work millions of times and must be wear-resistant and reliable in performance to withstand strict working requirements. Silver can fully meet these requirements. If rare earth elements are added to silver, the performance will be even better. The life of contact points made of this silver with rare earth elements can be extended several times.

The most important compound of silver is silver nitrate. In medicine, aqueous solution of silver nitrate is often used as eye drops.
