2. Licorice

Long-term and excessive use of licorice can cause pseudoaldosteronism such as edema, increased blood pressure, decreased blood potassium, and weakness in the limbs. 3. Sterculia lychnophora

It is only suitable for hoarseness caused by wind-heat evil invading the throat. Plantago asiatica is ineffective for hoarseness caused by vocal cord nodules, incomplete vocal cord closure, or excessive smoking and drinking. Moreover, drinking Sterculia lychnophora can produce side effects such as loose stools and chest tightness, and should be used with caution by the elderly and those with spleen deficiency.
