What are the symptoms of nasopharyngitis and how to prevent and treat it

Nasopharyngitis is an ear and nose disease that many people will contract. Nasopharyngitis occurs in both the nose and throat, and the body feels extremely uncomfortable after contracting the disease. Nasopharyngitis is generally caused by a cold and should be treated promptly and with careful dietary adjustments. So, what are the symptoms of nasopharyngitis? What are the factors that cause nasopharyngitis? What are the treatments for nasopharyngitis?

Nasopharyngitis refers to inflammation of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, submucosal and lymphoid tissue. Clinically, nasopharyngitis can be divided into two categories: acute nasopharyngitis and chronic nasopharyngitis. Patients with nasopharyngitis usually experience dry and uncomfortable nasopharynx, and sticky secretions that are difficult to cough up, so they cough frequently, often accompanied by local or systemic symptoms such as hoarseness, sore throat, headache, dizziness, fatigue, indigestion, and low fever. Examination of the nasopharynx revealed chronic congestion, hyperplasia, and hypertrophy of the mucosa, covered with secretions or dry crusts.

What are the symptoms of nasopharyngitis?

Nasopharyngitis is an inflammation of both the nasal cavity and throat. The nasopharynx is dry and uncomfortable, and there is a sticky secretion that is difficult to cough up. Therefore, patients cough frequently and are often accompanied by nausea. In severe cases, there are systemic or local symptoms such as hoarseness, sore throat, headache, dizziness, fatigue, indigestion, and low fever. Examination of the nasopharynx revealed chronic congestion, hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the mucosa, covered with secretions or dry crusts. Nasopharyngitis is a common inflammation. Recently, the number of patients with nasopharyngitis has been on the rise. In order to reduce the occurrence of nasopharyngitis, we should first know the symptoms of nasopharyngitis.

The following is an introduction to the symptoms of nasopharyngitis. Please see the details.

1. Intermittent

Nasal congestion is characterized by intermittent nature. Nasal congestion is relieved during the day, in hot weather, while working or exercising, but is aggravated at night, when sitting still or in cold weather. Another characteristic of nasal congestion is its alternation. When lying on your side, the lower nasal cavity is blocked, but the upper nasal cavity is well ventilated. Due to nasal congestion, occasional loss of smell, headache, dizziness, and nasal speech, etc. Examination of the nasopharynx revealed chronic congestion, hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the mucosa, covered with secretions or dry crusts.

2. Mucopurulent

Most of them are mucous or mucopurulent, occasionally purulent. Purulence often occurs after seasonal infection. Nasal congestion, clear watery runny nose, and yellow, thick, purulent secretions may occur in case of secondary bacterial infection.

3. Decreased sense of smell

It is mostly caused by two reasons. One is that the nasal mucosa is swollen and blocked, and the airflow cannot enter the olfactory area. The other is that the olfactory mucosa is stimulated by chronic inflammation for a long time, and the olfactory function is reduced or disappears.

4. Feeling of heaviness in the head

Headache and dizziness Chronic sinusitis is often manifested by a feeling of heaviness in the head.

5. Systemic manifestations

Most patients will experience symptoms such as dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, fatigue, memory loss and insomnia. There may also be sore throat, dry throat, mild cough, and a small amount of white sputum. The course of the disease is generally 5 to 7 days.

6. Upper respiratory tract infection

Nasopharyngitis is an acute inflammation of the entire nasopharyngeal mucosa, submucosal and lymphoid tissue, mainly occurring in the pharyngeal tonsils. In adults and older children, it often presents as prodromal symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection.

7. Systemic poisoning

Infants and young children are seriously ill and often have high fever, convulsions, meningeal irritation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dehydration and other systemic poisoning symptoms. In adults and older children, local symptoms are obvious, such as nasal congestion, runny nose, headache, dryness and pain in the nasopharynx, burning sensation, and foreign body sensation. Examination of the nasopharynx revealed acute congestion and edema of the mucosa, with a large amount of mucopurulent secretions attached, which could flow down along the posterior pharyngeal wall. The nasopharynx of infants and young children is not easy to see clearly, but due to pharyngeal secretions and severe nasal congestion, it may cause difficulty in sucking milk, prone to choking, usually breathing with the mouth open, and affect sleep. This disease can be felt in the upper neck lymph nodes swollen and tender.

Warm reminder: Rhinitis and pharyngitis is a common disease that is easy to suffer from. It is more common in children, often presents sporadicly, and occasionally causes an epidemic. You must pay attention to your physical condition in daily life. If you have the above symptoms, go to the hospital immediately to avoid worsening of the condition and missing the best time for treatment.

I hope you will pay more attention to the treatment of pharyngitis. Once you suffer from pharyngitis, go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time to avoid worsening of the disease and causing a series of complications. I believe that as long as patients with pharyngitis receive timely treatment, they will be cured soon. Finally, I wish you all good health!
