Paris polyphylla is a Chinese medicinal herb that rarely appears in daily life, so most people feel very confused when they hear about it. Generally speaking, there are two main types of Paris polyphylla, one is Paris polyphylla Yunnanensis, and the other is Paris polyphylla Seven-leafed Paris polyphylla. The medicinal value of these two types of Paris polyphylla is similar, but their growing geographical locations are very different. What is Chonglou herb?

Paris polyphylla is a traditional heat-clearing medicine. Paris polyphylla is the dried rhizome of Paris polyphylla yunnanensis or Paris polyphylla quinquefolia of the genus Paris polyphylla of the family Liliaceae. It has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling and relieving pain, cooling the liver and calming the nerves as a medicine. It is often used for furuncles, carbuncles, sore throat, snake and insect bites, injuries from falls, convulsions and other symptoms. Paris polyphylla yunnanensis is mainly produced in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other places, while Paris polyphylla quinquefolia is produced in Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Fujian, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places.

What are the effects of Chonglou?

1. Treatment of carbuncle and furuncle: Paris polyphylla has the functions of clearing away heat, detoxifying, reducing swelling and relieving pain. It is a commonly used medicine for treating carbuncle, furuncle and snake bites. It can be used alone as a powder and applied externally with vinegar. It can also be used together with Coptis chinensis, Red Peony Root, Honeysuckle, etc.

2. Treat sore throat: Paris polyphylla is used to treat sore throat, mumps, and throat paralysis. It is often used together with Burdock Seed, Forsythia suspensa, Isatis Root, etc. If it is used to treat scrofula and phlegm nodules, it can be used together with Prunella vulgaris, oyster, and Fritillaria thunbergii.

3. Treatment of venomous snake bites: Grind Paris polyphylla into powder and take it orally, or use its fresh roots to mash and apply to the affected area. It is also often used in combination with Lobelia to treat venomous snake bites, redness, swelling and pain.

4. Treat convulsions and convulsions: Paris polyphylla is bitter and cold and enters the liver, so it has the functions of cooling the liver and purging fire, calming the wind and calming the convulsions. Grinding this product into powder and taking it with water or combining it with Uncaria rhynchophylla, chrysanthemum, cicada shell, etc., it is effective in treating wind-generated heat in children, convulsions of the hands and feet, etc.

5. Treatment of bruises and injuries: Paris polyphylla enters the blood of the liver meridian, can reduce swelling and relieve pain, resolve blood stasis and stop bleeding. It can be used alone in the form of powder for oral administration to treat traumatic bleeding, bruises and injuries, blood stasis and swelling and pain. It can also be used together with Panax notoginseng, Sanguisorba officinalis, natural copper, etc.

Medicinal Prescriptions of Paris polyphylla

1. Treatment of herpes zoster: Take appropriate amounts of Paris polyphylla and cinnabar root, grind them into powder, add a little realgar, mix with white wine, and apply to the affected area.

2. To treat sudden swelling caused by wind poison: 50g each of Cyperus rotundus, Momordica cochinchinensis and Pinellia ternata. Grind them into powder and mix with strong vinegar to apply on the affected area.

3. To treat milk lumps, milk obstruction in women or breast blowing in children: decoct 15 grams of Paris polyphylla in water and drink with a little water or wine.

4. To treat ear sores, heat and pain: take appropriate amount of fleabane, grind it into vinegar and apply to the affected area.

5. To treat fetal wind and convulsions of hands and feet in children: grind fleabane into powder, take 2.5g each time with cold water.

6. To treat chronic cough caused by tuberculosis and asthma: Take 25g of fleabane and add appropriate amount of water, and cook it with chicken or pig lungs.

7. Treat internal injuries from falls, relieve pain and dissipate blood stasis: Soak Paris polyphylla in children’s urine for 40 to 50 days, wash, dry and grind into powder, take 1.5 grams each time, with wine or boiled water.
