Are mouth ulcers just caused by inflammation? Maybe it’s not that simple!

Many people have experienced oral ulcers and always think it is caused by getting too hot. Oral ulcers usually heal within a few days. If the disease recurs and does not heal for a long time, it should be taken seriously. Such as oral cancer, Behcet's disease, etc. So what exactly is oral ulcer?

What causes oral ulcers to "target you"? Experts say that the occurrence of oral ulcers is generally directly related to the reduction or long-term low immune function of the human body.

For most people, there are three main scenarios:

1 Occurs after certain diseases (such as cold, pharyngitis, diarrhea) or during the onset of certain chronic diseases;

2. The body's immunity is weakened due to various reasons, such as working late at night, hanging out in bars and internet cafes, overdrawing energy, and being under great pressure, etc.;

3. Lack of trace elements such as zinc, iron, folic acid, vitamin B12, etc. In addition, endocrine changes and genetic factors can also lead to the occurrence of oral ulcers.

For normal oral ulcers, usually no special treatment is required and they can basically heal within one to two weeks. If patients want to relieve symptoms or shorten the duration of the disease, it is recommended that they apply raw garlic patches to the ulcer to relieve pain, apply vitamin B2 powder to the ulcer to promote healing, or simply apply some honey. In addition, gargling with light salt water in the morning and evening can also have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Beware of the "hidden" diseases behind oral ulcers. In fact, oral ulcers are not terrible. What is terrible is that oral ulcers are often one of the symptoms of certain serious diseases, but are often ignored by everyone. The simplest identification method: If the oral ulcer does not improve after two weeks, you must go to the hospital for examination.

It is understood that many oral mucosal diseases will cause ulcers in clinical practice, such as recurrent oral ulcers, oral tuberculosis, oral squamous cell carcinoma, oral lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus, erythema multiforme, Behcet's disease, Crohn's disease, etc. Sometimes, it is also a reflection of systemic diseases, such as diabetes, stomach disease, blood disease, tuberculosis, etc.

Basically, what everyone fears most is oral cancer. Generally speaking, oral ulcers are surface ulcers, while oral cancer ulcers are larger in area, usually more than 0.5 cm, and are surrounded by white film. Moreover, the site of oral ulcer onset is relatively stable, but oral cancer patients will have bulges around the ulcerated area and continue to spread to the surrounding area.

In addition, oral ulcers are also a common manifestation of Behcet's disease. What is Behcet's disease? Many people may not know about this disease, but its onset can affect all organs of the body. Symptoms can invade multiple organs of the human body, including the mouth, skin, joints and muscles, eyes, blood vessels, heart, lungs and nervous system, etc. In severe cases, it can be life-threatening. However, in addition to oral ulcers, Behcet's disease may also be accompanied by symptoms such as eye inflammation and genital and skin damage.

How to prevent oral ulcers? To reduce the occurrence of ulcers, you should also start with personal healthy living habits:

1. Keep your mouth clean and rinse your mouth with salt water; 1. Quit smoking and drinking, eat a light diet, eat more vegetables and fruits, eat less spicy foods, and keep your bowels open; 1. Have a regular daily routine, get enough sleep, and keep exercising;

In addition, women should pay attention to rest before and after menstruation, keep a happy mood, avoid excessive fatigue, eat light food and drink plenty of water.
