Candidal vaginitis will worsen during menstruation because menstrual blood is the best breeding ground for bacteria, so candidal vaginitis is prone to recurrence after menstruation.

Symptoms of vaginal candidiasis

The symptoms of candidal vaginitis mainly include vulvar itching, burning pain, dyspareunia and dysuria. Some patients have increased vaginal secretions. The characteristic of dysuria is that urine stimulates the edematous vulva and vestibule during urination, causing pain. The secretion is composed of desquamated epithelial cells and mycelium, yeast and pseudohyphae, and is characterized by being white, thick and resembling curd or tofu dregs. Gynecological examination may reveal vulvar erythema and edema, often accompanied by scratches. In severe cases, skin cracks and epidermal exfoliation may be seen. The vaginal mucosa is red and swollen, and there are white lumps on the inner side of the labia minora and the vaginal mucosa. After wiping, the red and swollen mucosal surface is exposed. Erosion and superficial ulcers may also be seen in the acute phase.

Based on the prevalence, clinical manifestations, microbiology, and host conditions of the disease, candidiasis can be divided into simple vulvovaginal candidiasis and complicated vulvovaginal candidiasis. The clinical manifestations of vulvovaginal candidiasis can be divided according to the scoring criteria, with scores ≥7 points being severe and <7 points being mild or moderate. Approximately 10%-20% of women present with complicated disease.
