What is mugwort moxibustion? What are its characteristics and functions?

Chinese medicine is extensive and profound. Compared with Western medicine, Chinese medicine has very few side effects and significant effects. Acupuncture is a relatively

What is moxibustion?

Moxibustion is a method of using moxa as the main material to make moxa cones or moxa sticks, which are then ignited and used to fumigate or warm the acupoints on the body surface. Moxibustion therapy is a dazzling pearl in the treasure house of Chinese medicine. "One acupuncture, two moxibustion and three medication" occupies an important position in traditional medicine.

What is the effect of moxibustion?

1. Harmonize yin and yang. The balance of yin and yang in the human body is the root of the occurrence and development of disease. The tonifying and purging effects of moxibustion therapy are used to achieve the effect of harmonizing yin and yang.

2. Warm and unclog the meridians, and dispel evil cold. Mugwort is warm in nature and when burned and used for fumigation, the heat can penetrate deep into the muscle layer, warming the qi and promoting blood circulation. Moxibustion has the effects of warming and unblocking meridians, dispelling cold and dampness, regulating qi and blood, relieving numbness and relieving pain.

3. Promote Qi and blood circulation, eliminate blood stasis and disperse nodules. When Qi encounters heat, it flows; when it encounters cold, it condenses; when Qi warms, blood flows. Moxibustion is a warm stimulation that can coordinate Qi and blood, harmonize the Ying and Wei systems, and smooth the blood vessels, thereby promoting Qi and blood circulation, removing blood stasis and dispersing stagnation.

4. Warm the Yang, replenish the deficiency, tonify the middle and invigorate the Qi.

5. Restore Yang and rescue the adverse condition.

6. Prevent diseases, maintain health, strengthen the body and prolong life.

Methods of moxibustion

Fumigation-moxibustion or ginger-moxibustion is often used in clinical practice. Fumigation-moxibustion is to light the moxa stick and hang it on the dermatitis lesions until there is a sense of warmth, a flushed skin, but no burning pain and it is tolerable. You can also use a warm moxibustion device, which is a special metal cylindrical moxibustion device, so it is also called warm cylinder moxibustion. There is a small tube inside the tube, and there are holes around the small tube. When performing moxibustion, put the moxa into the small tube of the moxibustion device, light it, close the lid of the moxibustion device, and place it on the dermatitis lesions for moxibustion. The advantage is that the warmth can reach the skin directly, causing the local skin to turn red without causing burns. Moxibustion twice a day, 15 minutes each time, and a course of treatment is 10 days. Ginger moxibustion is to cut fresh ginger into thin slices of 2 to 3 millimeters, prick several small holes with a needle, place the holes on the affected area, and then place a soybean-sized moxa stick on the ginger slice and light it. Generally, 15 sticks of moxa are enough. Pay attention to the temperature to avoid burning the skin.
