Not only do they waste money, but their condition has not been effectively cured. So can mumps cause facial paralysis? What are the causes of facial paralysis?

Can mumps cause facial paralysis?

Mumps is usually accompanied by a series of diseases such as meningitis, nephritis, prostatitis, etc. There is no medical basis that mumps can cause facial paralysis.

4 main causes of facial paralysis

1. Dislocation of cervical vertebrae: The root cause of facial paralysis is the dislocation of cervical vertebrae, which compresses the nerves and causes nerve spasms, thus forming facial nerve spasm paralysis, leading to complete paralysis of facial muscles, disappearance of forehead wrinkles, enlargement of palpebral fissures, flattening of nasolabial grooves, drooping corners of the mouth, and deviation of the corners of the mouth to the healthy side when showing teeth.

2. Psychological factors: Psychological factors can easily cause facial paralysis: Surveys show that psychological factors are one of the important factors that cause facial paralysis. Before facial paralysis occurs, a considerable number of patients suffer from physical fatigue, lack of sleep, mental tension and physical discomfort.

3. Infection factors: About 42.5% of patients with facial nerve paralysis are caused by infection. Infectious lesions are mostly caused by the activation of herpes zoster virus (VZV) that is dormant in the sensory ganglion of the facial nerve. In addition, meningitis, mumps, influenza, scarlet fever, malaria, multiple cranial neuritis, local infection, etc. can also cause it. It is worth noting that Lyme disease is a tick-borne infection. This disease is regional and more common in summer. People living in forest areas and rural areas are more susceptible to the disease; ear-related diseases such as otitis media, labyrinthitis, mastoiditis, and suppurative inflammation of the temporal bone.

4. Traumatic: about 8.2%. Skull base fracture, temporal bone fracture, facial trauma, surgery and injection of neurotoxic drugs in the facial nerve distribution area such as alcohol, penicillin and botulinum toxin are the most common traumatic causes of facial paralysis. In addition, about 5.5% of patients are caused by tumors, which can be caused by the tumor itself or surgical removal of the tumor.
