What is facial paralysis? What is the cause of the disease?

Due to cold or nerve ischemia, many people wake up to find that their mouths and eyes are crooked to one side, water leaks from the corners of their mouths, their faces are paralyzed, and when they look in the mirror they find that their facial features have shifted. This is facial paralysis, so what are the causes of facial paralysis?

1. Causes of facial paralysis

Facial nerve paralysis is clinically divided into central and peripheral types. The former is caused by craniocerebral damage, while the latter is mainly caused by peripheral facial nerve lesions. The main symptoms include facial paralysis, inability to breathe, inability to open the mouth, and inability to close the eyes. This disease often occurs in young and middle-aged people, and the onset site is mostly on one side of the face. The disease can usually be recovered gradually after 2 to 3 weeks, and the symptoms will be significantly improved or disappear within 1 to 2 months. In a few cases, it may take several months or even a year to fully recover. In some individual cases, it may not be cured after several years of conservative treatment.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, facial nerve paralysis is mostly caused by wind and cold evil invading the Yangming meridians of the hands and feet of the human body, causing the meridian qi to stagnate, resulting in the meridian tendons being malnourished and the facial muscles to become loose and unable to contract. It can be said that facial nerve paralysis is a typical meridian disease. If it is treated with comprehensive meridian therapy, it can be corrected quickly. As long as the meridians are full of qi and blood, facial nerve paralysis will naturally be relieved.
