What is the pulse of kidney deficiency? How to diagnose the pulse?

Clinically, kidney deficiency is a disease that may occur in both men and women. Generally speaking, Chinese medicine practitioners can diagnose kidney deficiency by taking the patient's pulse. So, what is the pulse of kidney deficiency like?

Deep pulse

The pulse of kidney deficiency is generally deep, especially the pulse in the radial part. The pulse condition of a deep pulse is: it does not respond when pressed lightly, but only responds when pressed hard.

Shen Xishu

The pulse is deep, thin, and fast (more than 5 times per breath), which is a deep, thin and rapid pulse. A deep, fine and rapid pulse is a typical sign of kidney yin deficiency. A deep and slow pulse is a pulse that is deep and beats slowly (less than 4 times with one breath). A deep and slow pulse is a typical sign of kidney yang deficiency.

Shen Wei

When the pulse is deep, it beats weakly and even seems to be there and not there. This kind of pulse is called a deep and weak pulse. A severe pulse is called a weak pulse, which is the pulse of kidney yang deficiency.

Pulse diagnosis method:

There are three methods of taking the pulse in traditional Chinese medicine, namely the full-body method, the three-part method and the Cunkou method. The most commonly used method now is the Cunkou diagnosis method.

The Cunkou pulse is the radial artery, which is the radial artery pulsation point on the radial side (thumb side) behind the transverse palm line. The pulse taking site is marked by the high bone behind the palm (i.e. the radial styloid process). The site right at the high bone is the Guan pulse, the front part of the Guan pulse (i.e. close to the palm) is the Cun pulse, and the back part of the Guan pulse (i.e. close to the elbow) is the Chi pulse. Because the Cunkou pulse is divided into Cun, Guan and Chi parts, and the finger force when taking the pulse is divided into floating (i.e. light pressure), middle (i.e. medium finger force) and sinking (i.e. heavy pressure), this method of pulse diagnosis is also called the "three parts and nine signs" pulse method. The organ positioning of Cunkou diagnosis is: Cun pulse of the left hand - heart and Tanzhong; Guan pulse of the left hand - liver, gallbladder and diaphragm; Chi pulse of the left hand - kidney and lower abdomen; Cun pulse of the right hand - lung and chest; Guan pulse of the right hand - spleen and stomach; Chi pulse of the right hand - kidney and lower abdomen.
